The Canon 5D Mark III is a powerhouse of features and technology designed to produce the highest possible professional photography. With Canon’s new Digic 5+ Image processor, 22.3 megapixels, and an expanded ISO range of up to 102400, the Mark III is able to take high resolution photos with low-light sensitivity at up to 6 fps, and HD video up to 1080p at 30 fps. Image quality is improved with a photodiode structure, a faster photoelectric conversion rate, and 14-bit A/D conversion for higher sensitivity and lower image noise.
The Mark III’s body is made of a strong magnesium alloy build that is dust and weather resistant, with a built-in cleaning system that uses vibrations to remove particles and dust. The overall shape is more comfortable than previous designs, for use on longer shoots like events. The camera’s interface is meant to be highly customizable, with several buttons that can be assigned shortcuts and controls, such as image check and processing. For audio, a headphone jack is integrated for in-camera sound review.
The smart optical viewfinder has a 100% field of view and is improved with an intelligent overlay that displays autofocus, exposure information, and gridlines. An electronic level can be displayed on either the viewfinder, or the 3.2 inch 1,040,000 dot LCD. The LCD has been coated with an anti-reflective, highly transparent layer for accurate display. Easily review shots in real-time with the LCD’s Live View mode, and overlay a grid for precise frame balancing.
Autofocus on the Mark III comes improved with a 61-point reticular autofocus with 41 cross-type AF points, as well as 5 dual-diagonal points. Choosing autofocus points is simplified with six possible methods: Spot, Single Point, Single + 4 Adjacent Points, Single +8 Adjacent Points, Zone Selection, and Automatic AF Point Selection. This pairs with an iFCL metering feature that evaluates color in scenes to provide exposure readings via a 63-zone dual-layer metering system, so every shot is precise, accurately colored, and in focus. Red light sensitivity bias is easily countered with two channels that accurately evaluate exposure and produce the perfect shot.
An additive mode evaluates exposures on several layers of the image and works with a multiple exposure feature to compensate for a balanced shot. Bright and Dark mode assist in shooting in a wide variety of conditions and compensate for harsh lighting. High Dynamic Range (HDR) mode produces 3 bracketed exposures and combines them for an image with a balanced range of shadows and highlights. I-Frame Only mode enhances every frame of your video clip for concise, exact video. The Mark III is Wi-Fi and GPS compatible, making uploading and sharing effortless.
