Woah, bail now guys, you got scammed. [Link deleted: This product is a cheaply made knock-off. Relevant comparisons are welcome but we do not support copy-cats]
You're missing the point. Some of us want titanium for the same reasons someone prefers gold over copper - it's a more prestigious metal. We like the fact that you get what you pay for, and for those who can afford it, we get a metal that's inherently better than other metals. We like to pay for titanium to be able to SAY that, not because it's likely we'll ever need something ONLY titanium can live through or some ridiculous scenario. In my case specifically, I anodize all my titanium stuff, and it's much easier and cheaper to anodize titanium than to anodize aluminum, so for me, it's actually the CHEAPER option since I get all of mine colored. Point is, we all have our own GOOD reasons for preferring titanium. I'm sorry you don't get us, but you're not going to talk anyone into buying an inferior metal if they don't want to.
JalucianAluminum isn't an inferior material. It's merely different. For example it's lighter by volume and a better conductor of heat and electricity. But it isn't a strong, ins't as hard, and has a lower melting point. And it's harder to anodize. I think your anodization reasons make sense. And for items like pots, you can make it lighter than a comparable aluminum pot because you can make the wall thinner while still maintaining strength. But if both strength and weight are not a consideration (together), then aluminum is lighter. You're wasting weight by getting this or a flashlight for example in titanium. Aluminum is actually practically superior in these particular applications. Titanium is a cosmetic choice. Which is fine, but at least be fully honest about it.
ISKThey have done Ti before. Maybe not the XL, but there's not that much difference between the XL and regular. When did they stop making the regular size? I'm glad I got my 2 non-XL's late last year if this is true!
Yes I know you can, but aluminum anodizing is *much* harder and more involved. Titanium is way easier and cheaper to do. I do both for knives. A set of titanium scales can cost $35-50 while aluminum ano costs $80-120. I'll usually offer free titanium touch up, while aluminum ano customers must pay for an entirely new job.
It's worth noting that these have been all but impossible to find for quite some time now. This is a great deal and if you're uncertain about the price point, I'm sure the resale market will be kind to you if you decide you don't like it. The housing is titanium and the striker itself is replaceable with any other NanoSTRIKER XL kit. I'm very happy to see this here.
Yup! You're totally accurate. I went to go compare my titanium nanoSTRIKEr to one of my aluminum nanoSTRIKER "XL"s. Thanks for helping clear this one up!
Here are the results of the anodization I had done. Wasn't sure which pic showed the colors the best (neither did it justice) so I included both with and without flash pictures.
This is a little over the top. The core of this product is a flint and steel. It doesn't work any better than an inexpensive version. I bought an anodized aluminum one of these, from Wish or Geek, I don't remember which, for $1 plus another $1 for shipping. Sure, it took a couple of weeks to get here but, it does exactly what this does and, in only out $2 total.
