Personally I'd prefer USB to Toslink or mini Toslink, if I'm doing S/PDIF I'm doing to through fiber, not copper. A USB to Toslink adapter would be great for connecting micro HTPC's to A/V receivers. If you are looking for a good laugh though, head over to Firestone Audio's website, the descriptions are hilarious.

Oxide_44Agreed, USB to Tos would be a perfect pair to go with the SMSL DAC/AMP its a S/PDIF DAC and not USB. That would have been an awesome $80 setup for a laptop or just a PC with no fiber. Still a cool looking product.

Oxide_44The availability of USB to Toslink devices is numerous, though – USB to Coax is a lot harder to find, and since some receivers and DACs only have on Toslink port while having as many coaxial ports though fewer devices have coax, well, this is perfect.

wondroushippoI don't know if I agree on the lot harder to find... of the devices that instantly lept to mind (UDAC, SMSL XUSB, Gustard U12) all have a coax connection and 2/3 have optical.

ElectronicVicesFair enough! :-) Perhaps then, marking down to just entry-level products like this, it's easier to find products with just optical outputs (and a lot of consumer-grade equipment often lacks coaxial outputs)? I have a SybaSonic USB DAC that has optical and coax outputs, but the coax acts weird with 5.1 signals.
