Sweden’s Fjällräven developed the original Kånken backpack in a response to the rising issue of back problems in schoolchildren. That was 1978. Since then, the Kånken—with its simple, comfortable construction—has become a favorite with people of all ages around the world. The Mini Kånken is great for young children who carry books and other items to school, as well as adults who like the looks and functionality of a smaller everyday pack. Made of a material called Vinylon F, which is durable, lightweight, and resistant to water and dirt stains, this backpack can hold a packed lunch, wallet, water bottle, piece of fruit, or the like. Along with a main compartment, there are two side pockets, a zippered front pocket, and a reflective logo for extra safety after dark.
Founded in 1960, Fjällräven—Swedish for “Arctic fox”—was inspired by a young man’s treks in the mountains near the small town of Örnsköldsvik. Dissatisfied with the gear available at the time, 14-year-old Åke Nordin began making framed backpacks in his basement using his mother’s sewing machine, and later expanded to tents. Today, the company applies Åke’s commitment to functionality, durability, and dependability to a range of products.
