Bought this for my 8yr old son for Christmas and it was a huge hit! It's tough to see in this pic but the RGB glow through the transparent case is pretty cool. Thank you Drop for helping me make this gift happen.
I shell out good money for keyboards...this one with NK blueberrys and SA caps is the best keyboard I have right now...it pains me greatly to say it. Its also the cheapest.
For the price, you really can't beat this thing. South-facing hot swap, decently lubed stabs (could use some tuning), included PCB foam, and a nice deep sound that express case character well, though if you're bothered by it you could easily add some foam or Polyfill. Also the additional USB-C ports support pass-through for at least one connected port, haven't tested all of them at the same time and you will ofc be limited to USB 2 bandwidth. I'd have liked to see these positioned along the back of the board for a cleaner look.
Of note: this PCB supports PCB-mount stabilizers! I haven't tried to test fit any yet to see if the plate accommodates them as well, but the mounts are visible through the case. This thing with some Gateron G-Pro's or JWICK's and some TaiHao Cubic caps and you've got yourself a banger of a board for under 150 bucks.
Only possible QC issue have a small hairline crack in the top case near the tilde key, barely noticeable but once you see it you can't un-see it. It's not doing anything funky, and for all I know it could have been something I caused, so be sure to give yours a once-over to check for these before building it up! Can't find the software to use it, only links I find bring you to a KPRepublic-managed file repository where the folder that's supposed to contain it is empty, thankfully there's enough built-in on-board controls to let you have some expanded functionality.
The build quality of this board is excellent. It is well dampened, solidly weighted, and aesthetically pleasing (obsidian color). I installed a set of akko cs lavender switches topped with XVX great wave key caps and am quite pleased with the build! The typing experience is engaging and enjoyable, and the sound and key response is uniform and unintrusive. It was plug and play with my windows PC (dell hub for a latitude 5420) and switching between lighting settings via Fn+Ins is breeze. I haven't installed the firmware and likely won't since I don't foresee any customization necessary ... Overall, a great buy and highly recommended. Shipping was prompt and reliable.
First of all the overall keyboard is great especially for beginners like me, and it's construction is very good for being plastic. However, when testing the keys one key didn't register after some troubleshooting I realized the hotswap socket was lose and not properly soldered to the pcb. So instead of having to deal with returning it I opened it up and soldered it myself wich had done the trick .
GhostForgeI’ve had the exact same thing happen to me with another keyboard, that day I learned how to solder because I was too impatient to wait 2-3 weeks. It was worth it, I spent 10$ and learned how to solder 👍🏽
Clean, simple, easily moddable board with already impressive specs
I personally tend not to like translucent cases, but this one looks pretty good, especially for an entry-level DIY kit at this price point. There is a bit of empty space inside the board that is less than ideal for sound, which I changed using some car-dampening mats and made the weight and typing sound of the board very good for how little effort I've put into it so far (I intend to lube the stabs at some point in the near future). Definitely recommend it for someone on a lower budget or building their first kb!
I am impressed with the quality of this keyboard for the price. It even has south-facing LEDs! My only gripe is that one screw on the back was tightened so much from the factory, that I stripped it trying to get into the case. Despite not being able to do the mods that I want (yet, I will figure it out!), the keyboard sounds pretty good as is. The stabs aren't bad either. It feels heavier than it looks, with the transparent smokey black case. So far, I am loving this one! Seriously considering picking up the white one, but do I need it? Do we need any of this, if we're being honest?! :P
Got this on a whim when it was $60. You can get this board for about this much from Aliexpress including shipping (but have to wait weeks) so $60 is reasonable I think.
Having said that, it's a super nice DIY board. There's silicone dampener between the PCB and the plate already installed. There's no case foam but I didn't really feel it needed it. Opening the case up is a bit more complicated than it needed to be necessitating the removal of some screws before unsnapping the clips--so I didn't bother opening it up.
I like the translucent plastic. It makes the RGB look great and looks better than the standard smooth ABS plastic of keyboards in this price range. There's very little flex or squeak when flexed. The stabilizers are perfectly fine.
The backlight is very nice. Not sure if it's the translucent case or what but it's much more pleasant than the RGB in my other boards.
I knew there was no bluetooth already but I was slightly disappointed anyway and would have used this as my daily if it had wireless. The deeply recessed USB C port is annoying if you want to use any other cable besides the one that was included.
I have Boba U4T and Drop TTY MT3 keycaps on and enjoy the feel and sounds (the stabilized keys sound great). Just wish it had bluetooth so that it could be my daily driver.
Did some mods to this budget keeb and am very impressed. I actually had more trouble getting it to close than open it up. As for rgb control, this keyboard is now supported on SignalRGB app. Works great, would recommend.
