Sorry if this has been asked and answered, but does anyone know/tested these vs actual Clear pads? Are they sonically equivalent? Interested because I'm thinking of picking up the Clears but those light grey pads are bound to get dirty! If these sounded the same I'd buy them.
Are you guys doing this drop any time soon ?
These feel like my stock Elear pads...squishy. They don't have the same midrange issue as the stock pads though. I also feel like the bass impact is a bit worse, but it improves the overall tonality of the Elears.
For those wondering, these are definitely not the same pads as the Clear pads. The quality is bad in comparison.
Received my Elex pads two days ago and have been swapping pads on my Focal Elear since then. I now have three sets of pads for my Elear: the stock alcantara pads, Dekoni Elite Hybrid pads, and these Elex pads. The Elex pads cause the Elear to have significantly less midbass and upper bass, and slightly less subbass in comparison to the stock pads. As a result, the upper mids are boosted relative to the lower mids; the overall effect is that the Elear is slightly clearer, less laid back, and more foward/aggressive sounding, especially with distorted electric guitars. The downside is that the reduced bass results in less dynamism and overall eye-blinking impact that the Elear is known for. Definitely a worthwhile purchase for existing Elear owners, since I can definitely see myself using either the stock or Elex pads depending on my musical mood.
Anybody know how these affect the signature of the Elear? Does it increase the bit of midrange dip it has? Does it make it sound different in any way?

The price was $60, which is not bad at all compared to the usual prices of Elear and Clear pads

Yup. A while back I paid full price for a pair of Elear pads so I know what you mean. :-(
Received mine: these are exactly as advertised. Replacement for the Elex. Not the same pads as those on the Clear, FYI. The grey clear pads have different finish, and the foam feels diferent as well, ever so slightly firmer on the clear pads. The material that contacts the ear is a bit more texturized on the grey pads. It is a good product, as described, and great price. Just don’t expect the same quality as that of the grey Clear pads.

The biggest difference for me is that your skin oils won’t stain the Elex pads like they do the Clear pads, which makes the Clear pads practically useless in my opinion. If Focal made a darker material Clear it would sell like hotcakes.
Got shipping confirmation.

Me too, although by the looks of it, it hasn’t shipped yet. Hopefully it starts to move soon.

Yeah I should've said label created :) In any case, it looks like mine started moving and will arrive Thursday.
New shipping estimate?
ELPCU
well, now shipping confirmation.
Boo delayed.
Does this drop ship to Europe? I am willing to buy Elex/Elear but head Elex drop is not available for Europe
I thought to buy Elear locally and those pads.
The fabric on the Elex ear pads annoys me so much. It's literally a dirt magnet!
KevYeoh
At least the colour is black so you won’t see the dirt !
How hard are these to swap?
gardibolt
I have elear. Elear pad is very easy to swap. It uses same holding mechanism. so it should be wasy too.
gardibolt
Very easy. You just pull them off since they're connected by little prongs. Re-align the prongs on the replacement and snap it into place. Shouldn't take more than a minute or two.
I think this is a right move. I am a Focal Elear owner. Really wish to try out how Elex sounds like. It would be even better if we can get the 4 pin XLR balanced cable in Elex package. I like the thick connectors to both sides of ear cups. I can find other after-market balanced cable. Usually their connects to ear cup are too thin. If Massdrop can create a drop of those Focal Elex balanced cables, I would definitely use it.
I will never buy another focal product because of the price of pads for the clear being $200-$400 which is a rip off. these aren’t exactly clear pads but pretty close which shows the greed of a company like focal which I was a fan boy. These we’re manufactured by focal not massdrop so that shows me it isn’t a manufacture cost it is just pure greed of customers who spent $1500 on the clears
Ah so these ship worldwide but the Elex does not. Makes sense.
Does anyone know how long these pads would last for everyday use?
Damn great deal/replacement incase my focal pad wear off 3 yrs from now.
Is this one off stock or has Focal agreed to sell to Massdrop every once in a while?

Any chance for a drop on the Focal headphone stand? It's sexy, but like the rent, the price is too damn high!
Magiko
Low odds, we have these earpads because they're for Elex customers. The stands aren't critical to supporting the product. It looks like a nice stand, but tbh I'd recommend the kind that attach to the side of your desk and support the headband in a more uniform fashion. Sennheiser used to make one, there are a bunch for cheap on amazon now.
Stands that put pressure on the headband or earpads are not great for longevity.
These are exactly like the Clear pads, but black instead of grey and those pads usually go for $200. Deffinitely don't pass on these.
Interesting. Has anyone compared the Elex with the Elear + Elex pads?
Imabae
I’d wager they‘d sound identical. I expect many Elear owners to buy these and get a $60 ‘‘sidegrade” to their Elears and also be able to switch between Elear and Elex mode at will.
I've heard Focal Pads are crazily expensive so this affordable price is a surprise for me. Nice.

Actually they do, Moon Audio has them for...$200 :( So these are a solid deal unless you need the color to match.

Good to know. I was looking for some a few months ago and nothing was to be found. They just started stocking the Focal hard case again too. Don't know why Focal is so bad about making it easy to buy accessories and parts.
