Now, if you combined a ForeverSpin and a platter with a magnetic field in order to spin levitated..... now THAT would be one hell of an almost frictionless rotation, not to mention a really nice conversation piece. Hey, if they can spin a globe with magnetic levitation, I can’t see why they can‘t do it with a perfectly balanced top!

By way of comparison, I'll probably spend $138.95 just on eating out this week.

I just won this item in a different, more recent drop. Arrived yesterday and it's cool as hell. It's a bit of a shock when it first lands in your hand — it weighs over twice as much as any other top its size. It's not easy to spin and only goes for a couple of minutes at the most, as others have said here. You do need a very smooth surface like glass or polished metal if you want it to spin for more than a few seconds.
My other EDC top is a Vorso Mk 1 with a honest-to-god ruby bearing, and it's more user friendly and longer-spinning by far and away. You have to keep in mind that in terms of basic design, the Vorso is literally more advanced by about 5,000 years. For sheer style, prestige and durability, though, this ForeverSpin has it beat, hands down.
The indestructibility of this little top cannot be overstated. Humans are atom smashers, to be sure — we can destroy anything given the motivation to do so. This top is so inoffensive and would take so much work to destroy, however, it's difficult to imagine anyone ever wanting to go to the trouble.
It's as hard as an emerald, denser than uranium and has a melting point comparable to that of diamond. You could bury it deep in the hottest active volcano on Earth for ten thousand years, and it would be perfectly fine. Seriously.
It's an amazing feeling knowing thing that this thing I'm carrying around in my pocket, that was made for me, will likely witness the formation of new continents and the evolution of major new species. It will probably be around until the sun goes supernova.

DemonLeecherIts made from tungsten, not only is the material very, very expensive, but it is extremely hard to machine because its density. in a shape like this, its actually a pretty amazing price for such a piece.

PhantomworksTungsten costs in Europe about 35-40$ per Kilogram, its not that crazy expensive. The processing though, like you said, is very costly, the price is fair.
Could just get a plastic one & sneak aboard the International Space Station

Just wanted to pop this in here, in case anyone was interested in the challenges of machining tungsten and its alloys.

It's a short read without much jargon. ;)
Hi everyone, I am happy to tell you that I've spoken to ForeverSpin and they have agreed to work with the community on the number of participants needed for the lowest price on this drop so that it is much more achievable for the community.
The lowest drop point of $138.95 now unlocks at 15 participants!

I have three forever spin tops, not one can spin longer than a minute. I also have one from Kickstarter that has a ruby bottom that spins for roughly 10 minutes, yet only cost me $60.
EpopleI've had the chance to spin 7 different ForeverSpin tops so far; here are my findings:
The surface makes a huge difference in spin time. I've had the benefit of the ForeverBase for my spins but wouldn't get close to this on a desktop or other surfaces with small imperfections.
Each metal has its pros and cons. Most of them I can get between 1.5-2 minute spin times. The Tungsten top has been the hardest to spin, but once you get a good spin, it seems to spin longer (probably due to the hardness causing less friction). My top spin yesterday with the Tungsten top was 2:50 and that's the best I've gotten with any of them. There is definitely a skill factor and this is the most challenging of the collection.

Wow, there's a lot of negativity in this discussion. Anyone who knows anything about tungsten will understand exactly why these tops are so expensive. The density, the hardness, and the difficulty in machining it all add to the desirability as a top and the cost to manufacture. Tungsten must be sintered into a useful shape and then abraded to this mirror finish. Those tools used to make all the other CNC tops, yeah the bits are made of tungsten carbide. The density and the hardness provide a ridiculously heavy and unyielding top with significantly more rotational momentum than any other material on the market. It's twice as dense as lead and a 9.5 on the MOHs scale, if memory serves!
