On the fence about these guys i could use some advice.
I currently own a the hifiman he560 which I love and I also just received and am really enjoying the drop for the Westone 30 IEMs.. Do you think the TH-X00 would be a nice addition to pair with them? I'm thinking yes because the he560 are more laid back, wider soundstage (airy), neutral and detailed with accurate but not thumping bass, which I will use during critical listening sessions with classical, jazz and blues. I'm hoping these would be more forward and fun for rock and hip-hop... am i correct in my assessment?
I know some might say don't keep spending round $500 on headphones when I could purchase a single $1000+ headphone. I'm not worried about owning a second pair of "mid-fi" headphones and not leaping for a true flagship headphone. I'm happy playing is mid-fi land for a while and having multiple options for listening depending on the content to be played.
I was a little disappointed that i missed the ebony drop because everyone is clamoring about them, but those seem to be a little smoother in sound representation so actually maybe the mahogany will be a greater departure from the he560s for me. Hmmm.
Any wisdom is appreciated!

JeeperBGEWow, I have to say this is one of the most well thought-out posts I've read on here! Greetings from a fellow mid-fi wader! I suggest you read this comparison between the 3 different models. It is a little long, but something tells you aren't one of those "too long; didn't read" people (I really hate the acronym) - http://www.head-fi.org/products/fostex-th-x00-massdrop-exclusive/reviews/14608

JeeperBGEYou're welcome. Let us know which one you decide on.
JeeperBGEI own the HE500 not 560's so while not apples to apples it's still fairly close as one replaced the other in the line up. I think Fostex does a pretty good job with dynamics. This is definitely not a neutral headphone but it's also not oddly colored either. I personally think you would get quite a bit of enjoyment out of the THX00 for rock and bass heavy tracks. It has a nice peak in the upper mids/lower treble ala a Grado that makes guitars sound quite good. The mids are not on the same level as my HE500 but I very much enjoy a wide variety of headpones. I'm at 20+ pairs and counting, including the IE800, Beyer T1, HE500 and I still greatly enjoy the sound of the Fostex.
