pantagA very expensive fast wide prime. Massdrop isn't the platform where professionals would buy such a professional, purpose-specific lens, and most professionals would have the sense to simply rent such an expensive and purpose-specific lens for the purpose/assignment at hand, unless their arsenal requires and justifies owning it. And few people would sensibly pay $1k for the occasional shot that requires this lens' faculties to be delivered, e.g.: wide angle bokeh shots, etc.
There are countless wide angle alternatives that are far more cost effective.

nantipaneith$1K (or $800 on sale) is not too much money for an awesome wide lens. Actually, this is Fuji's best X-line lens.

pantagYou're right; it's an awesome wide lens, and the price is right. The justification for a random photography enthusiast (as most Massdrop shoppers qualify) for paying the price to own this lens is hard to find.

nantipaneithNot sure it is that specialized... 1.4 is not only useful for bokeh, it is an advantage for exposure too. You might take shots that would end up too dark or blurry with any other lens.

nantipaneithwell, it probably beats the wide angle bokeh reason you're talking about... seriously a company like Fuji doesn't have the same lens coverage as Canon, they wouldn't just go and make a lens for that specific use. They made a 16mm prime with f1.4 to justify its price and differentiate it self from the competition. And anyway, if you have a Fuji camera, your only other choices to shoot at 16mm are the 16-50, 10-24 or 16-55mm. Kit lens isn't in the same league, 10-24 has OIS but can we expect 3 stops all the time and finally 16-55mm might be on par with sharpness but is a lot heavier and 'slower' at f2.8. Just look at dpreview forums and tell me the photo enthusiast won't spend $1k on that kind of lens...

nantipaneithNobody buying into this drop has nothing to do with how specialized or not this lens might be. This drop is only $60 cheaper than MSRP, it is ridiculous. As I mentioned earlier I can find the lens in my local shop (ok, that is in Switzerland) for $868 tax included, normal price, no rebate or anything. I would assume one could easily get $100 during sales or Fuji mail-in rebates. So in the end, the drop doesn't sell because the drop is not good enough...
