Ray Ban sunglasses are just a few pieces of plastic and varnish and a few screws, yet a pair of Ray Ban sunglasses made by another company and sold on AliExpress are just that, knock-offs.
Doesn't matter if we're talking cars, stereos, sunglasses or fidget toys. If it's made to look like someone else's product to the point that you're fooled, then it's knock-offs, pure and simple.
You can't compare this to Raybans.
It's like comparing a stick with burned end and a pilot pen, and you can't call other sticks with burned ends knockoffs either.
(1) if you intended to buy 'Giggle Hands' spinners, but because a seller presented their own product in a way to fool you, you ended up buying something else thinking it was 'Giggle Hands' spinners, then you fell for a con and bought knock-offs. And that's not cool.
(2) if you intended to buy 'Giggle Hands' spinners, but in the end you willingly chose another product because a seller presented their own product in a favorable way (even if both products looked a lot like each other), then it's OK, you bought a similar product.
Knock-offs = product ABC, made to look like product XYZ (from a brand, image, design, etc. point of view), willingly, to fraud people into buying it, thinking they bought XYZ. 👎🏻
Competing products = product ABC, similar to product XYZ but differing a bit, and hoping to sell to you on its own merit, without making believe it's something else. 👍🏻
Materials, complexity, etc. don't come into play. Could be pens, Rolexes, spinners, glasses, or t-shirts. For me the intention to fool the buyer is the chief aspect to consider.
This is just someone slapping their own "brand" on an existing design that has been coming out of China for the last year or so. There are several "brands" doing the same thing... they're all the exact same design, likely made in the same place.
