My wife got their Chef's Knife probably 8 years ago or so, well before she met me. It's a great knife, just need to keep it sharpened and straightened. It's the kind of knife you want to do a quick sharpening (straightening technically) of before you use it. Well balanced. Definitely a buy-it-for life item. At the typical price of about 100 or more I'd say there are better knives out there for a chef's knife, but at 59.99, that's pretty close to being a steal.
Unlike at Amazon, the pictures here at Massdfrop as really useless. You can't magnify them. So you really can't decide on purchasing them.
Add the GS-5 next time and I'll join! Good deal for Global but can't help but think their quality is a little outdated for the price nowadays.
Not sure if I'd trust the current quality of these knives. I'd bought a bread knife from them years ago and it's been good, but recent ones have been mediocre and inconsistent. Checked out a few cleavers and they were a disappointment -- if you look at older knives or even their current model pictures, the dimples on the handles are all perfectly even and filled in. But for every knife I purchased recently, there was ugly paint outside the dots, inconsistent sizes, and one cleaver had an odd crack in the base of the handle. Their customer support assured me that I didn't have fakes, so I can only assume that they've cut their quality to keep costs low and revenues higher... Which would also explain why these are available so cheaply on Massdrop, as these prices seem to be as much as 25-40% off in some cases.
I have a couple of Global knives and love them, but it's true that my chef's knife does chip a bit. Still very usable after 5 years or so, though -- I do plan to buy a couple more through the drop, since the prices really are good.
For what it's worth I found out about Global knives because they're recommended in the book Kitchen Confidential by Anthony Bourdain.

What a book!
Have sharpened a few for customers now. All 3 sets were chipping and all also wanted to chip out during sharpening tried both a Tormek and Dmt stones. With all 3 sets doing the same thing I would tend to think that they treat the steel harder than it can handle or its just a horrible composition.

I have the same problem: sharpened 4 of them and they all were chipped or would chip during sharpening, using Edge Pro. They slice well and are thin knives, but chip prone
Anyone have any concerns who have used Globals before? Was thinking about picking up some Wustof Classic Ikons but these are a great price.

I‘ve had a Global knife for more than 15 years. Used daily, it has never chipped and sharpens easily and well. I just use a whetstone but the method is slightly different to most other knives.
Seems like an actual good drop with some substantial savings for a change!
Compared to Amazon, this drop is selling the G-5 vegetable knife for $55 cheaper, and the 4-piece steak knife set for $110 cheaper. I didn't check other models.

Yea, this is significantly cheaper than I got my GLOBAL knives for, and that was almost 10 years ago. Still use them frequently. They are pretty amazing and were worth full price then - definitely worth the price in this drop.
Only thing I knock it for is not having their regular utility knife. That's my favorite kitchen knife I've ever used hands down and gets 10x the use of the paring and chef's knife of theirs.

I'm so excited, I have the 7" chefs knife already, which when sharpened is a deadly vegetable killing machine. I ordered the meat cleaver and cant wait to use it!!!
