Just to poke a hole in the speculation bubble: has anyone seen this watch go for more than 600 USD on the used market? I haven't.

LuoboI don't know about the US used market which tends to be cheaper (as the US grey market is larger) than in Europe. But in Europe where I live, it will certainly sell for more than 600. Mind you, my point is not about speculation, rather being able to resell it well (meaning at least without losing money) if I don't like it as I don't have a chance to try it on.

AleskbAleskb: "I joined for one, would have bought 10 and resold them on the Bay in Europe for 1000 Euros each if I had the money to invest!" It's difficult not to interpret your comment as a suggestion to speculate (buyin' & flippin').
How can you be so sure you will "be able to easily sell it for 1,000 Euros after reviewing it"? Are you simply guessing or have you actually seen a recent add/auction from a private person who was able to get that price? Again, I have not been able to find evidence of that, but it's not like I've scoured every corner of the internet.
I'm not trying to slag you off, I just want anyone (not you specifically) who think they can make easy money think it through carefully.

LuoboI'm very interested in this discussion. I commented below i couldn't justify buying one but after looking more into it .. am i missing something ? Is this like the deal of the century ?
People have been commenting that glycine is clearing stocks hence these prices lately, on ebay, massdrop, jomashop ( i hope i'm not breaking a rule mentioning other websites ) BUT this models are from the new batch.
So.. whats the catch here ? Its selling for way more in every other place, and its not like they are raining either .. 1 or 2 hundred watches before they sell out, these quantities of the same watch model ""around the world"" doesn't make it "mainstream junk".. in my humble newbie opinion. So whats stopping me from buying it, and if i don't like it, flipping it ? I don't see a watch of this calibre something that doesn't retain value..

LuoboOk maybe I got carried away there :) My reference is how much you can find it for in Europe, on official retailer websites and on ebay. But granted enough, if the demand isn't there, it won't sell at 1,000. I however very strongly doubt I would fail to sell it for at least 800 if I had to, hence not losing money on my purchase, import taxes included. To me, that's enough not to think too long about it, buy it and try it. ;)

SapitHey! Difficult to say what Glycine is going through lately after the purchase from Invicta. One thing is for sure, the Combat Sub prices went crazy down in the last couple of months, and don't seem to go back up again. Maybe the same is slowly happening to the whole models, with Invicta more on "selling numbers, cheaper" than on a "selling fewer, more expensive" strategy. No clue. But in terms of buying and eventually flipping it, my bet is that it would sell at the price I've bought it here, with a little patience (Glycine not being the more searched for brand on the used European market).
In the end of the day, it's always a bet you make, there's no "secured way" about buying a new watch and not losing on it I guess ;)

xiaoqizYes indeed, you have a few good examples there. But that's my point precisely, only one of these adds is lower than the current massdrop price, and by 4 USD ;)
There is therefore little to lose by going for this one, even is one is to have a change of hearts later and flip it imho. Also, the brand is much more "confidential" in Europe where I live, and you have less ads for used ones, as well as no access to a grey market where you can get it for 700 USD. I'm therefore hoping not to lose on resell even after paying 150 USD import taxes, if I want to resell it. Which, I repeat, is not my initial aim, I'm really hoping to love and keep it (in which case I'd probably sell my Blumo to bring some cash in for the next one), but am looking to all possibilities ;)

xiaoqizThank you for your input. However, the watches were sold for less than you indicated: 700, 799, 595, 600, unsold (traded) and unsold (withdrawn after going down to 665) (all assuming no further haggling took place) . 799 is a bit of an outlier, I doubt you will see those prices again on the second hand market, judging by the way Glycine prices are heading. I'd say about 600 is what you can expect, currently.

Aleskbi felt glycine would be a dangerous brand in retaining value given what has happened to its pricing strategy, which is why I didn't buy the combat sub, plus the homage looking. Airman on the other hand is more original and so called "iconic" which gives me more reason to suspect 600 might be the bottom of this price fluctuation. Anyway, I can't really imagine why people are selling their Airman and I'd be happy to know why...

LuoboSomehow I have the feeling that the collaboration between Massdrop and Glycine is initiated by the Invicta marketing team, probably to touch base before further expanding their market. If that's the case 600 might be a bottom line for brand new DC-4, and with that price Glycine is going to be much more competitive.

xiaoqizI think you are right. The high MSRPs of Glycine are a thing of the past, and the Massdrop price is a ball park number of what to expect in the future.
