Most descriptions online of this now discontinued watch state the GL293 is a modified ETA 2893. But this drop says it's a Sellita 300-1. Does anyone know what the actual movement in these is, or will be?
JCrukHi there, the old discontinued Base 22 did indeed use the modified 2893. These are being brought back into the lineup with the Sellita SW300-1 movement instead.
Vincent.HThey replaced the crown logo with the bird. The photos are def preinvicta. Either this is old stock or the photos don’t represent want is being sold.
Glycine-USAReally hope you produced the 36mm airman again. Lots of watch enthusiasts are craving for that one. Especially now that the vintage sizes is more widely accepted and used.
Glycine-USAHello Kind Sir/Madam from Glycine,
So just to confirm, the current drop is the old logo with SW 300 and not ETA 2893?
I just joined the drop because of the old logo and hope I get what i am expecting.
Gosh....Massdrop does such a horrible job at product description and product pictures!!!
Glycine-USAThe reversion to the old crown logo is a nice way to tell us that Glycine will be autonomous from Invicta and maintain the high standards that have caused so many of us to love the brand. It appears that this new airman line is made for Massdrop and there are only 30 copies per style. That being the case, it would make the watches more of a "collectors'" item if there was paperwork, numbering each watch. And perhaps even to engrave the number (such as 1 of 30, etc to 30/30) onto the case itself.
Glycine-USAThe ETA 2893 and SW300-1 movements are quite similar, although the ETA's have been around a lot longer, with an excellent track record. Why did Glycine decide to switch to the SW300-1?
RyuichisanProbably because Glycine is not part of the Swatch Group, which owns ETA. Therefore, ETA movements would be much more expensive. While Sellita, which began as a company making ETA movements for ETA and now makes its own movements at the same manufacturing facilities, does not charge exorbitant prices to watch brands outside of the Swatch Group. ETA and Sellita offer the same quality movements, made from similar parts, with similar accuracy, that fit the same watch cases. But ETA charges high fees to the independent brands, so Sellita wins.
