I previously purchased my son the Airman GMT version, which I thought was very good looking. I purchased this version for myself more as a knock-around/water/weekend-day watch with the blue face. I did not like the blue leather strap so I swapped it out for a solid navy blue nylon NATO strap, which looks respectable but not organic. I was a little underwhelmed by the appearance when I received it, but it is acceptable. Not sure I'd pay $450 for it again.

dpj1Could you please give me some points to why you found the appearance underwhelming? I'm interested in this exact model but haven't seen it in person yet. Thanks

andrei1015I think the best way to summarize it is that it just seems a little plain to me. There is nothing amazing or spectacular about the color of the face. I have another Glycine Combat three-dial chrono where the face is painted this amazing gray-silver that shimmers and changes appearance in different lighting. I love the way that Combat Chrono looks, all the time. I am not usually a fan of large watches--I have watches whose diameter is smaller than this one. But this one just seems less substantial than even my smaller watches. It is very inconspicuous, from a color and size standpoint, it just sort of disappears. No one has complimented me on it or even noticed it yet. It does not make a statement, which can be a good thing. I am not into watches that are incredibly busy in their markings or bezels or bracelets/straps, and with a standard or striped NATO strap, it certainly fits me in that regard. It is difficult for me to articulate exactly what it is that does NOT move me about this watch; it is just something intangible. I think it is just a feeling for aesthetics that one has or does not have. There is certainly nothing wrong with its quality as a timepiece. It keeps excellent time. The price now is $400, which is that much better than the deal I struck a couple months back. Still not sure I would do it again.

andrei1015I will say that I now have it on a striped NATO strap in black, blue and gray (from BluShark website) that looks much better than the solid navy strap. It makes it a little more interesting.

dpj1I really appreciate the time and effort you put into writing this. I have a Combat Sub Golden-eye and I love it. The design of this watch looks very appealing to me and the only concern would be if it is actually worth the price regarding the materials used and the finish and accuracy this has been made which you've cleared up for me. Although its a great deal besides the fact that I went a bit crazy in the past year with watches if I acquire this I most likely have to offload one piece in my collection which I'm not ready for. Maybe in the future I'll get my hands on this. All the best

dpj1thanks for the honesty, some people just keep quiet when they buy an expensive watch that does not live up to the expectation they built by looking at the picsw online

dpj1Don't own the watch, but have been considering it. It doesn't scream 'nam 67 Huey pilot like the original, more of an understated world traveler look . Can't help wondering if a brown leather pilot strap would pop the color.

SnowgooseflightI have a brown leather strap on my Combat 6 chrono which looks great. I could switch it onto this one, but it don’t get the feeling it would be that much better. Here is my striped NATO strap.
