Long ago, the Skull Marines were the elite soldiers of the empire. Any crisis, any battle, any confrontation, you could count on these deadly warriors to be on the front lines Read More
This was my first artisan, and I'll have to say I wasn't disappointed! It didn't make the best first impression, because it arrived rattling around inside the shipping box. It comes in a fairly nice wooden box with foam in it that closes with magnets, but the magnets aren't nearly strong enough to keep it closed in shipping. Luckily, it seemed to be undamaged. (This is the bronze version, by the way.)

This thing is beautiful! I honestly think it looks better than the promo photos, which is pretty unusual. It fits fairly well on the switch and seems to be just the right height to go with SA caps, although I hadn't tried it with anything else to see how they compare. The holes in it allow the backlighting to come through, which looks really cool from the right angle. Overall, I have no complaints.

For the curious, I currently have this on a DZ60 keyboard from KBDFans with 67g Zealios switches, in a black 5 degree case using MaxKey SA White on Black keycaps.
The key itself is fantastic, but I have to take off a star for the shipping and fit issues. The little wooden case came open in the shipping box and the key was rattling around. Then, I had to slightly squeeze the female stem with pliers to get a snug fit on my keyboard or else it kept falling off. Those things aside, it looks and feels just as nice as the stock photos.
I loved the look of it , but the gold platyed one started to tarnish quick.. It fits the theme of my board, bu treally would have liked the gold plating to last longer.
The product looks great.
The wooden box it came in was cool, but was not securely packaged within the much larger cardboard box, so the magnetic lid came off and the key was left to bounce around. (Not a huge deal in this case since it's a metal key...)
The stem is far too loose. If there was any QA done at the manufacturer, it was done by monkeys.
Unfortunately for me, Massdrop doesn't have replacements in stock and all I can do is return it for a refund.
Instead, I put multiple small pieces of tape on the stem to provide a bit wider purchase for the key.
So, I'm keeping it because it looks cool and that's why I ordered it, but I won't order from this company's drops again. (No fault of Massdrop, they've been great thus far.)
Edit: Ended up using pliers, and almost squeezed too hard, but it *fits* now...
Bronze one arrived and it is stunning, easily looks better than the stock photos. The detail is just incredible all over. This marine has pride of place on my M10-A keycap display paperweight.
Backlighting isn't great. The holes would need to be filled with glue or resin or something to give a proper glowing effect. I expected this from the promo pics so not a real negative, a mod idea maybe.
Mine happens to fit my cherry stems very well out of the box. If needed I would't be scared to tighten the stem with some pliers. Metal will bend pretty well.
It loses a point for packaging. The skull came out its wood box and was rattling around. Fortunately this thing is sturdy as mate.
