Sennheiser PC37X randomly goes bad after disconnecting the cable ?
Greetings, Yesterday I was using my headset like normal with my macbook, just listening to music and on a call with people like usual, and the headset was perfectly fine. The stock wire that came with the headset is extremely long and yesterday it annoyed me very much that it kept getting tangled with itself, so I decided to see if the cable is replaceable. I pulled out the cable from the headset and saw the adapter, and looked online for a replacement. Upon plugging it back in, the audio sounded extremely muffled and washed out. Im not sure what I did wrong to make it mess up like that as I've always taken good care of it, ive had it for about 2 years and its always just been chilling on my desk, but anywho I thought the cable just went bad and ordered a replacement. The replacement came, and the issue is still persistant, so I am not sure what the issue is I've tried multiple different headsets and the issue is not with the port, and I also tried it with my windows laptop and...

Looks like there’s some confusion surrounding the warranty status of these Grado SR-80e’s. Taking from the production section of our FAQ (https://www.massdrop.com/faq#products),
Q: Is Massdrop an authorized seller of each product? Do you offer product warranties?
A: Massdrop isn’t a store or retailer; we are an online platform that makes it possible for people to buy together. As a result, our relationships with vendors are less typical than a normal online store. All warranties, product defects, or malfunctions should be handled directly with the manufacturer. If they are unwilling to honor their product warranty, contact us within the manufacturer’s warranty period and we will coordinate the product exchange or repair on your behalf.”
In this case, an employee of the manufacturer (we received an email from the address he handed out, so presumably he's legit) has posted that they will not service warranty requests on these units so if you have any problems with the product within one year of purchase (I say one year because that’s what’s specified on Grado’s warranty page) please contact Massdrop support.
For an additional level of clarification (because it looks like there are a couple people wondering about the legitimacy of these units) while we’re a platform rather than a store/retailer, we make a point to only work with authorized dealers/distributors. All units available in this drop are authentic Grado products.
Finally, given this discussion section has gotten a little messy with all gradonationalsales’ posts, I’m going to consolidate them into screen shots attached to this post. Check the screenshots if you’re interested in what they had to say.
If you have any questions or concerns, feel free to email me: will@massdrop.com, and I’ll do my best to respond quickly (I like my Saturdays same as you and I’m on the season finale of Narcos, would recommend).
Best,
