Grand Trunk originally designed its Kryptek double hammock with military special operations in mind. Made from a proprietary no-stretch fabric in patented reptilian-like patterns, this hammock achieves a distributive layered effect, so it lays flat and is more comfortable Read More
I'm definitely interested as this is one of the few larger hammocks featured on Massdrop.
I currently use a 10 foot long hammock and have always wondered, if a longer one would be more comfortable? I'm pretty much exactly 6'0", but has anyone else my size tried longer hammocks? I would appreciate your findings.
jari.perhoIf you want to try something bigger, I'd recommend going longer (11-12 feet versus 10.5) rather than wider.
My experience with a grand trunk double (I've used it for four years, from Canada to Hawaii, and it refuses to rip and let me buy a new one) is that a ton of that extra width just bunches up and flaps around as extra fabric.
The hammock is listed at 400lbs, but the straps are at 200lbs. Is that per strap, or do I need a different strap for this hammock if I weigh over 200lbs?
nastynate13I'm 240 lubs and it has held me for over a year. Although I have since switched to home made Mule Tape suspension straps. Also, I would assume that the rated breaking load is far less than the lab tested failure point.
Does it have a zippered cover for protecting yourself from mosquitos while sleeping? The photos make it look like there's a mesh on top but does not explicitly say.
LamontNo it does not have a screen. It may look like there is more in the pic because it's a double width hammock and also the inside of the fabric is kind of white in color.
delnerdoWith the discount on the straps here both items are still cheaper here. The thing is the tax makes it cost a little more for me here. I was also able to find a discount at their sister store to make it just a little cheaper but they are out of the straps there.
I'd get this if it wasn't covered in "patented reptilian-like patterns". I want simple objects around me while I'm camping, and to focus on the scenery. A high-tech badass T-rex print is silly and out-of-place in the mountains.
