michael.d.haasI took 2 classes last year (spoon carving, knife carving) but if you search online, there are several tutorials for how to carve by hand. My only word of advice is be careful - and always move the knife away from you. In both classes, someone cut their finger within the first 15 minutes of class :(
My spoon carving class was taught by Melanie Abrantes and for a while, she was selling kits online. For inspiration, I follow her, Sylvia Song, Windy Chien and Ariele Alasko on instagram; they hand carve items but also do larger, beautiful pieces with wood.

sora.bBeautiful work & good safety reminders! I also carve. I'd

add: don't carve on your lap. If you cut your femoral artery, it can be fatal. I use a lap board I designed & made for lap carving. For very fine detail work, I occasionally wear a Kevlar (cut resistant) glove I purchased from Amazon.
