Product Description
Combining modern science with time-tested geometry, the iKon Slant not only provides a super-close shave but also resists rust, corrosion, and staining. That’s because it’s finished with a hard black B1 coating, the company’s proprietary finish, which protects the stainless steel head against the long-term effects of soap and water Read More
Exactly. It takes a bit of an effort to learn the proper techniques, such as no pressure and good preparation and to find the right blade for you. After that, it's smooth sailing.
I'm thinking about buying this one. I like the look and am a fan of slant razors. Hopefully iKon can live up to their name and have a more precise head than my Merkur 37c, which can be a bit uneven in its edge exposure.
The head on the 102 is aluminum, and is based off of the Mulcatto slant. The B1 is coated SS. Both great razors. I find the 102 a bit milder than the one offered on this drop, but they are both pretty smooth.
the best shave you can get. with a single blade on each side you get a much closer shave than any 4-6 blade over priced razors from the big name brands. Wilkenson sword are my favorite blades.
I keep a persistent but managed 5'oclock shadow with hair clippers, however I do use a razor to maintain my eyebrows. Any thoughts on using this for that?
if the badger fur is sourced from North America from regions where badger hunting/trapping is legal, it's usually fair chase. if you source from China, badgers reproduce to the point of being a nuisance species: similar to wild boar in the US. I'm all for synthetic brushes, but if you do your research on the products you buy, you can find "ethical" products
leatherbarrelI agree; ethical products are always good, regardless of provenance.
But what I am against is animal cruelty, whether it's badgers or other animals for fur and leather, or even livestock and farm animals for food.
Of course I cannot be always sure that what I am buying has been treated in the context of ethical animal treatments; but I will actively seek information and boycott products I know have been created unethically (whether food, clothes, or other).
Thanks for the comment on the North American sourcing! Good to know!
Before I buy, is this an aluminum head or stainless steel?
After doing some research, this seems to be a great deal. Cheaper than buying the head alone, and the handle isn't so bad either. I've been looking to buy a slant and this may be the impetus I need to pull the trigger.
Fwiw, I currently use an Ikon Shavecraft 101 with the incredible Bulldog handle and a Merkur with a long handle. I use the Ikon daily and the Merkur sits unless I need something milder.
Thanks. It helped me make the decision on that drop. After using it, I'm really impressed. I only have to make 1 pass over most of my face, with a second XTG pass on my chin. I used to have to make three passes (WTG, XTG, & ATG). This was a great drop for me.
Massdrop - Please add an option for an iKon black razor stand for $20, like I bought for the iKon Open Comb Deluxe Razor drop back in March of 2016. Also a choice of an alternate iKon stainless steel handle like the Bulldog or Bamboo would be great, since I opted for the OSS handle last time. Thanks!
Pros:
1. best audio feedback I've ever heard - this thing is LOUD
2. Easy to master - OK for a beginner but perhaps start with a smoother less sharp blade.
3. Aggressive enough for a perfect shave and gentle enough to use every day.
4. Blade alignment is fine, I've tried to deliberately set the blade crooked and am unable to do so. Because the blade is twisted so much the changing angle does cause a slight allusion of being crooked but it's really not. Also, even if it was a hair off who cares? it's a frigging slant lol.
5. Keeps on cutting long after you would normally toss your blade. I get roughly twice as many shaves per blade.
Cons:
1. The fact that it has a coating at all may be considered a con since if you use it to drive nails it could potentially get scratched. - Don't Do That!
2. Some say the geometry of the head - specifically the steep hump - makes it awkward under the nose. I keep a mustache so I can't say for sure on that one but it looks fine to me.
3. Jessica Alba is NOT included with this drop. (not even a photo)
ParadoxZerototally, i don't get why MD can't wait until things can be shipped before they put it on their web-site. seems like a terrible business model. Makes me not want to (and never have) buy anything here. i'm not going to wait six weeks for a purchase. haven't that heard about the rapidly growing phenomenon of "instant gratification"?? Amazon ships shit and you get it in one to two day(s)!!
Got mine today, tried it out, and I'm in love with it already. The slant razor seems like a textbook definition of 'Superior Design'. Seriously -- it shaves so well.
It's also beautiful to look at; it regains its piano black gloss after rinsing off lather and it's really quite satisfying.
The handle is impressive as well. The heft feels great. The knurling helps you retain your grip through slick lather.
For anyone who is questioning this razor... Jump on this drop! Many people get scared by descriptions of slants but honestly they are some of the easiest razors to start wet shaving with becaus the curvature of the head presets the shaving angle. Don't be afraid; this thing shaves like a dream! I've shaved with it in a hurry with a heavy hand and not cut myself of had any severe razor burn but if you use a light hand and take your time you won't even know there's a blade in it.
