I don't get why everyone is going "ga-ga" over these "atmos" soundbars. Nothing, and I mean NOTHING will replace a dedicated speaker setup for Dolby Atmos. These soundbars for which manufact/ are charging $500 -$1000+ are the biggest racket out there and folks are scooping them up like hot cakes. For $1k you can get a good/compact 5.1 setup which will blow the pants off any "atmos" soundbar, no matter how good the soundbar's algorithms for bouncing sound off walls are. Here's an example, https://www.ebay.com/i/112185788306?chn=ps. I have this system and it rocks! Especially good for apartments and small spaces.
DmeechI get where you are coming from but when you are renting be it a house or an apartment, typically you aren't allowed to put speakers or other things in the walls. That aside I do own my home and bought this during the previous drop, We have rearranged the area in our home theater a few times and it's much easier to do with a sound bar than taking speakers out, cutting in new holes, patching the old ones, etc etc. If I had a dedicated room with a projector and screen (basically an in-home movie theater) then it's worth it to put forth the effort to run the neighborhood shaking stuff.
I bought this from Massdrop. Using it in the family room for the second TV. Main system is a full 7.2.4 system. I really like the sound from this soundbar. I have a roku TV plugged into it and nothing else. I just turn on the HDMI CEC at both ends and it just works.
Audio is much clearer when watching Netflix, amazon prime etc. Two cables to connect in my instance. One from tv to base unit. One from base unit to soundbar. Subwoofer is wireless and just needs a power connection. Very nice!
Big improvement over the TV speakers.
So far from what I found, a used Sub Integra SLW-43 can be found for $100 on ebay. Might not mean anything but to me its saying the sub is meh. As far as the sound bar none of the best buy have them for in store listening. As others have said its almost identical in specs to the Pioneer FSEB70 and Onkyo system.
Just found out why, onkyo owns pioneer and integra 🙃
1 - Turn sound bar upside down
2 - Lose access to up-firing atmos speakers
3 - Better off buying a soundbar without up-firing speakers
4) Then Profit!
;)
ElectronicVicesOf course profit - because you've now invented down-firing ground effects speakers. How else are you really going to BELIEVE that zombies are clawing their way out of your floorboards??
Integra DLB-5, Onkyo SBT-A500, Pioneer FSEB70 ... all looks the same for me. Interesting, who actually designed it? Dolby? And who is the actual manufacturer?
DzerhI noticed that also, other then some front panel differences, and back panel ports. The three sound bars appear to be from the same manufacturer.
Differences I could find from the Integra:
Onkyo SBT-500 - Same front panel. Same remote. Missing IR input. Missing Sub Pre-Out.
Pioneer FSEB70 - Different Front Panel. Slightly different remote. Missing IR port. USB input moved to back.
Did a little research and Integra audio is owned by Onkyo,
this looks interesting but if that's a custom cable from the soundbar to the device... that might be a deal killer for me. How long is that cable? Is an extension for it an option?
To anyone that actually owns this, how does it sound?
I've only found two "professional" reviews and they contradict each other, with one saying the soundbar was great with great clarity and the other saying it was muddy, sounding like people were talking with their hands over their mouths. Integra is supposed to be Onkyo's high-end brand. Reviews of the Onkyo SBT-A500, which this looks like, aren't great. But there are small differences, at least visibly, like the Onkyo's receiver not having a sub pre-out.
