Just an FYI to the site owners here..BIG mistake made in the description. 1095-Cro Vsn IS NOT. stainless steel. It is basicically a common CARBON spring steel alloy snd WILL rust like crazy if not kept oiled.
I use my knives often, so looking around for a specific type of oil that will protect the blade for a long time has never been necessary for me. I just use whatever I have on hand, which, for as long as I've been using carbon steel blades (blades that will rust), I've just grabbed the oil bottle out of my gun cleaning kits and spread a thin coat along whatever exposed metal there is. I have stripped the coating off of a couple of my carbon steel knives, so oil gets spread all over them. Knives that still have the coating just get oil along the edge. If you think your knife is going to sit around for long periods of time, you should research if there's a specific type of oil recommended for that kind of duty. If you take 'em out to play often though, any ol' oil will do.
If you want to use it for cutting food, use an edible/ food grade oil. I hear coconut oil is great. I use a cosmetic grade jojoba oil, but already had it around. Nearly anything will do. Olive oil, canola, sesame, etc
For all of the Amazon price comparison posts...Thank your keeping us apprised of your due diligence! It has definitely been very helpful in the past to be reminded not just to get excited! but in this case the drop comes with extra handle/grip options not offered on Amazon with the $65 price and could put you close to $98 if both purchased individually on amazon
ManInTheMazeNo matter where you purchase, it comes with a second set of brown Zytel scales. I think you might be confused with the very nice micarta scales that can be purchased separately on Amazon and elsewhere for around $35.
This is the knife that the local knife shop uses to illustrate the point "It's useful to be able to go and pick up a blade and see how big it is in real life".
Now, this is a good price for a BK-16, but if you haven't gotten your hands on one, be told: it's HUGE. Thick as a Fox News talking head, but unlike a Fox News talking head, it's black.
yiriWell again, it's a matter of perspective. Alongside my BK-3 Tactool and my BK-21 Reinhart Kukris, this one would look positively miniscule :p LOL
Blue Tom above knows his stuff. He guided me on my BK-21 purchase, and I love it :) If he says this is a good deal, I'm in!
I support Uncle Ethan (tm)
The Coyote-colored handles do come with the knife, as well as the Cordura sheath. This Ethan Becker-designed knife's shape is very close to one of its bigger brother's, the BK-2. Blade geometry is different - this one is full flat grind, while the BK-2 is a partial flat grind. The BK-2 is a beast at 1/4" thick and 5 1/4" length, while this BK-16 is 0.165" (just over 5/32" and just under 11/64" - 33/200" actual conversion) and 4.4" length. This knife is ideal for hunting and lighter-duty bush-craft tasks, as well as making a great fixed blade EDC. Many options available for aftermarket scales and sheaths if you look around. When it hits its lowest price, that will be the lowest price I've ever seen for this knife, and I've been following pricing and buying Becker knives for over 10 years. Under $3.00 bucks for shipping ain't bad either. If I didn't already have a handful of these, I'd jump on this in a heartbeat.
BigolsmokebombI think the original prototype was a saber, and maybe the first run of them too
I've seen people reference them but never seen one for sale
EngraverComplain, complain and complain ... then their shipping policy will change. Until recently, they would not ship to New Zealand. I complained and complained and complained.
You got to be kidding me.....I've been waiting for this drop...sharing on social media...telling my friends. ....and now when it hits 200 you decide to no longer ship internationally......really! At least wait until this drop happens. ...pppllleeeaaasssee!
flavc3Hey flavc3, this was not a decision we took lightly and we're doing all we can to explore other options for shipping knives to our international members.
As far as relaunching this drop, it is not available to us at the moment and I do not foresee that changing in the short term. Hopefully the timing works out so that if/when we launch the BK16 again we'll be able to ship internationally.
I've seen some retailers on Amazon, unfortunately, it's impossible to import it to Europe for a reasonable price (more than 3x the price). Would you suggest the BK15 or this one for general camping usage (like carving, chopping, etc.)?
CuriousCarlThey both would be good but the bk16 has a square spine, better for battoning and the cutting edge comes almost to the handle for finer work. For all around use or backpacking the bk16 would be my choice for a single knife, I do pair my bk15 with my bk9 to handle all kinds of tasks though.
Ethan Becker carries around a bk16, that tells me that it's a good everyday, all around knife.
