When it comes to backpacking and your favorite beverage, every ounce counts. At just 2.3 ounces, the Keith Titanium hip flask is an easy way to bring your libations along Read More
I recieved my flask today, and I really like it. Out of curiosity, I weighed the flask empty and after filling it with water up to the base of the spout. The empty weight was 62 g, and the filled weight was 206 g. This means I was able to fit 144 g of water into it, which would be 144 mL or 4.87 oz. I calibrated the scale with known weights designed for calibration beforehand. So it seems like the advertised capacity is less than its max capacity, which is a good thing in my book!
MiCro17I'm bilingual as well (metric/"standard"). 144 g = 144 ml is just too easy. I'm an engineer that deals with liquids, so for me it's a given I work in metric (& "standard" / english).
I bought one last time around, haven't used it uet.
MisterPink"The funnel doesn't work" its a damn funnel. What does it not have a hole? If theres too much air pressure in the flask to let liquid in just lift the funnel a little its not rocket science.
EnthonyClarkIt's one of several flasks I own. The others have funnels that flow freely without lifting them. This one is a PITA to use. Like I said, this flask looks cool, but is not a great flask. Other, cheaper flasks I own succeed much better at being usable. It's an honest review, people should realize what they're getting. A cool looking flask that fails at being a usable flask.
So this drop is about 1/4 the price I paid for the Snow Peak version.
What gives?
-both are titanium and have removable cap
-so made in Japan is 4x price of made in China?
Well that puts me in my place . You're right I know nothing about good bourbon or scotch . I made this comment 9 weeks ago there RIP van Winkle ..notice I didnt say Pappy ? Youre not that smooth . Or witty , went down with no burn .
chrismsmalleyuh... wut?
I guess when all you do is troll all you see is troll?
I never opined on your preference in booze, or knowledge thereof.
Only that by the time you're looking at a flask the size of a book, booze already comes in bottles that size and shape... just not, you know, good booze.
As for the timing: clever burn 'yo. But the drop just came around again and asked me to review the one I bought last time. Read through the conversation, saw something amusing, responded to it. I don't particularly care if you made your comment 9 weeks ago or 24 hours ago (which, incidentally, is when Massdrop's page seems to think you made it).
But hey, keep up the trolling. I'm sure someday you'll hurt somebody's feelings and get the gratification you so desperately crave.
My two cents after carrying and using this for a bit. Maybe address some of the criticism as well.
-The cap threads are a little "rough" initially, but with use they smooth out.
-The cap isn't attached, but I knew that when I bought it. You know, because of pictures and stuff.
-The internal volume is fine for camping or a friendly get together. Flasks aren't intended to get the whole party wasted, they're for personal use. The flask hold ~5 ounces, which is more than enough for single barrel bourbon or a nice single malt. It is the perfect size for a suit or sport coat pocket. I actually carried mine to a charity event last night and it wasn't visible nor did it weigh down the jacket (sag).
-No leaks. The body of the flask is sturdy enough to ride in a back pocket or backpack without fear of being crushed.
-Filling the flask requires patience. The funnel helps, but the small opening of the flask does require taking your time.
-For $25, it's tough to beat. I don't know what grade of titanium it is and don't care really. It doesn't impart flavor and it doesn't take on the flavor of what's in it. After 4 weeks, the Macallan that was in it tasted the same as what was in the bottle.
First of all, this is in the ultralight community so not sure what people are expecting capacity wise. 2nd of all, if you are drinking fine spirits, 3 oz is more than enough. If you are looking to get wasted, just go grab a 40 at the local gas station and knock yourself out.
DimaGSnag a favorite Amp photo online and then print it out on peel n stick paper. Attach the appropriate shots to the front and back of this flask. Now lay it on your desk with some cheap IEMs and everyone at work will think you're hip-guy with Audiophile interests--rather than a boozer.
PS: bring mints
DO NOT BUY DO NOT BUY! This thing DOES NOT seal tightly. Something to do with the way it is machined or how small the opening is but you CAN NOT get a tight seal unless your CRANK DOWN on the little cap. I'm talking about more than 10 NM of force at least, every time I do it, I feel like I'm going to strip the threads right off and it takes at least a minute of effort to ensure that it is tight enough. Even with this much care, I still found it to leak some of the time. This design flaw defeats the purpose of the flask. I was really excited about this thing but it is a total fail.
quizThough to be fair, the snow peak ones are like 150 bucks and a different shape. I like the shape of this one more. Everything is a copy of another, if you want to keep going back, snow peak got started by copying western mountaineering equipment.
