I don't think a nice umbrella like this is really a necessity per se, in that most umbrellas will keep you dry. What makes this different is the experience you have when using it - carrying a solid stick umbrella just feels amazing. For that reason I'd say this is a great example of an enthusiast product - the functionality is more or less the same, but the joy of using it is much higher. I felt (and still feel) that mine was a great buy at $165, even in drought-stricken CA. For $50 less, this is a great price if you think that you'll savor using it like I do. A lot of people in our office are eyeing the sample at my desk this morning, too.

Just about there! We've been in touch with the vendor regarding the group's order and they've let us know that they are still working to manufacture and prepare the group's order for shipment to our warehouse in New Jersey. We will continue to check in with them throughout the fulfillment process and update the group again as soon as everything is en route to us!

Just wanted to post that Kent Wang dealt with the issue directly. Their support was extremely proactive, had a new umbrella in my hands immediately. In short, Kent Wang's customer service is a model that all other organizations could learn something from. Very, very satisfied, and thanks to Kent Wang for being such an amazing outfit.

I bought from the last drop and this umbrella is fantastically beautiful. It is not automatic so you would have to hand open and close, but i feel the action is part of the elegance. The chestnut I bought is one piece. It is sturdy but not sturdy to be used as a cane. The arc of the top is designed perfectly. Great style when using this umbrella.

dls2000I feel as if they're sturdy enough to use as a cane, however the horn is perhaps a tad too smooth to avoid slipping. Otherwise I agree, the brolly is stunning. Handle is designed well. Mechanism is easy enough to use.

Using an umbrella in Oregon makes people laugh. Rain is part of life here. But this is a beautiful umbrella. I'd buy it if you could put a chihuahua print on like my current umbrella :D classy right?

That makes sense, I live in Eugene and there's a lot of people who walk but I'd say there are plenty more drivers.

There is literally about $3 of a saving between this and the Kent wang website for international backers. Kent Wang charge $25 for mail.any chance of looking at the mail charge which is excessive!

What happened to the price point on the original drop. Wasn't that $50 off, not $25 off as with this time around? I was getting excited at a second chance after having it missed it by a few hours the first time, but I thought Massdrop prices were typically consistent?
