tyler555Oh. Lmao sorry. I truly was like 'what' s this guy on? It obviously locks!'. Anyways my experience with kershaw is that their speedsafe mechanism will keep your blade closed without issues, but I can imagine a few applications where you would want it to lock close.

tyler555I've have a Blur and ZT 0566 and had a Cryo and none of them ever came open without me wanting them to (either tip up or down). No need for a lock.

14C28N generally takes a better edge than S30V steel and unlike S30V steel it won't dull after cutting a few pieces of cardboard, as far as i know 14C28N steel is proprietary to Kershaw

Govermint...with a 14C28N blade. S30V is a far superior steel. Granted, Kershaw offers S30V Blurs for $70 on Amazon, but thy aren't blackwash models and aren't this limited edition with blue scales.

tyler555I have a couple Blurs and a couple other Kershaw speedsafe knives and I've never had one (or heard of one) opening on accident.
That said, personally I like the Blur better when it's de-assisted, which is very easy to do. They are very smooth, quick and easy to deploy without the spring

TehCookiemonstaI've used both quite a bit. From my experience S30V definitely holds an edge longer. 14C28N is very easy to sharpen though and does take a good edge.

TehCookiemonstaIt takes a better edge just because it's easier to sharpen. S30V also holds an edge for longer.
14C28N is low-mid grade. S30V/S35 is getting into mid-high grade. There's plenty of charts online on knife steels.

cooperredExactly. 14C28N makes getting a razor sharp edge easier, but once that edge goes it all goes downhill fast. That makes it better to cut soft materials. S30V on the other hand, keeps some tooth so that even after the razor sharp edge is gone, it still makes easy jobs out of cutting cardboard and rope.

sprk1Which is why I'm saying S30V is better than 14C28N. Yes it's easier to sharpen, but you'll be spending more time sharpening it just to cut paper. S30V can cut soft materials and hard materials and last through it all.

TehCookiemonstaS30V is more highly regarded and it is more expensive. It wears differently than Sandvik. $70 for an S30V Blur is a good deal, especially if you like blue and BW. I paid more for my S30V plain satin blade... too bad the only way to get the plain tanto I like is the BDZ1 plain tanto... still waiting for a plain edge tanto in S30V or S35VN.
