Ken Onion developed the SpeedSafe assisted-opening mechanism, and its application on the Leek has made this folder a staple in the EDC community. The Leek’s drop-point blade shape and slim, tapered profile allow it to excel in both slicing and detail work Read More

Is this a normal occurence on this website? TBH 3+ weeks and waiting is not really worth saving 15 dollars...

rudylorrenIt's a bit longer than the norm, but it's definitely worth it to me. Typically I am not ordering anything off of Massdrop that I have a definite date that I would need it by. Saving some money is well worth the waiting time.

Pretty sure you can get this knife from amazon for cheaper and it would probably arrive by the end of the week.

On Amazon? That's exactly the shipping price I get here on Massdrop, but not Amazon.

JerrikkoI'd be really interested in a drop for an improved Leek. Just got one of the D2 composite models from Amazon (paid $55... they're $67 now, two weeks later.), and I'm really loving it. The 14C28N models take a nice edge, but they just don't stay sharp for long enough.

JerrikkoI love 14C. Takes a wicked edge and holds it well as long as you strop after using. Some of those super hard steels are just super hard to get sharp. Yes, S30v holds a kind of sharp edge for a longer time. But getting it razor sharp is next to impossible. I have one of their Sandvik composite Leeks with a high carbon core. That thing is sharper than snot but it is too brittle. I live in fear of snapping off the tip. 14C is nearly the perfect knife steel for the way I use my knives.
For me, S30c is a lateral move with better durability of the almost-sharp edge cursed by its inability to take or hold a truly sharp edge. My survival knife is S30c. My EDC is Sandvik 14C.

$46 every day price on amazon, free one day shipping for me. I'd rather pay $46 for one day shipping than $42 for who knows how long.
I have the Leek in black handle/stonewash blade (1660SWBLK), and it's been my EDC for a long time. Great knife, and great steel for the price. Also, out of the myriad sub $75 knives I have, it has one of the best actions

I want to see Benchmade knives offered. There was a a poll on this site last week and Benchmade outpolled Boker and Spyderco with as many votes as the other two combined. Support a quality US knife maker instead of imports.

dennisinatlIt's highly doubtful you'll ever see Benchmade on Massdrop. They are very restrictive on who can sell their knives - you have to be one of their authorized dealers that advertise at MAP along with other conditions like minimum inventory to be kept, minimum order from each class of knives they offer, minimum annual order amount, etc. I've heard they even require you to own a physical store.
Also Spyderco has been in "Golden, Colorado U.S.A. Earth" since 1978.

guvnorThat is smart of Benchmade. Supporting their dealers makes sense. They are a value brand in my mind. Not cheap by any means, but you get fine quality at a fair price. I have bought 4 or 5 over the years. I was hoping to find a deal on their knives, but not surprised by your answer.

Can I import this into Australia? Sorry but i'm very inexperienced with importing knives and I don't really know where to find the information. Thanks

FungusfengI'm not Australian but I found this: http://www.customs.gov.au/site/page4372.asp#CommonWeaponsList
It includes "assisted opening knives, one hand opening knives" under "Items that ARE or MAY BE subject to control" and nothing relevant that I can see under "Items that are NOT subject to control".
I also found this: http://www.customs.gov.au/site/page4369.asp
Which suggests you need a "written permission from the Minister for Immigration and Border Protection, prior to the arrival of the goods in Australia" to import assisted-opening knives.
I didn't watch this complete video but you might find it helpful:
Hey everyone,
While we would have liked to have had both the silver and black available at the same time, we were only able to secure the black Leek for the community after seeing the amazing response to the silver Leek.
We would love to see Benchmade products on Massdrop as well, and rest assured we are working on it, but nothing has come to fruition just yet.
