Problems out of the box -

Received the C3 Compact Pros and attempted to set the correct tension on the clamp screws for my correct pole height in preparation for hiking. There was a problem. I started by backing off the screw all the way in the clamp and opening and closing the lever periodically as I tightened it down to the right tension - worked for the first three clamps with no issues; however, I noticed excessive wear on the last lever! The clamps appear to have curved square/rectangular metal washers between the clamps and their levers. These washers appear to assist the clamp-lever operation - possibly to extend the lives of the clamps by reducing friction and spreading out force from the lever. Well, one of these washers appears to be faulty or misshapen because it completely wore away at the metal on one of the levers by basically carving away at the aluminum every time the clamp was opened and closed. Even backing off the screw almost entirely now I am barely able to operate the lever because it appears the washer is misaligned somehow. After contacting massdrop support they offered me a refund, but I was hoping to get a pair of hiking poles and they have no stock to replace them. Alternatively I could warranty these with the MFG (within 3 years of manufacture and my poles were made 11/17) but I’d have to pay shipping, so I have very frustrating options with a new product I planned to have on an upcoming hike! Was really hoping to be able to keep these but it looks like I’ll be taking a refund and going with a different manufacturer.

SugarRayFollowing up on my own review. I ended up pursuing warranty through mfg. they quickly replaced the faulty lever/clamp on the affected pole and I’ve been using these ever since. They’ve been excellent and sturdy even though I use them at max extension 120mm. Every now and then I have to adjust the torque on the screws to make sure I get the perfect clamp for my height. A little blue loctite helps prevent this frequently. Another reviewer is correct in that they’re very difficult to close the lock during transport without messing with a screw. Generally I leave the clamps open when they’re not in use to prevent wear, but I have almost lost a pole this way (a tree I walked under got caught on it and pulled the section out!) and may start using a rubber band to secure them open. If I had to buy them again I would have gotten the longer pair to give me additional height for my trekking pole tent, although 120mm is recommended for most.
