Product Description
A great entry into the world of fountain pens, this set includes two 2018 special editions: the LAMY Safari in all black and the LAMY Al-Star in vibrant pink. Both models feature the same much-loved shape—done in plastic and aluminum, respectively Read More
I know the Lamy Safari is recommended for beginners, but to all my pro fountain pen users out there- is this truly a good deal? People say that the average price is anywhere from $20-25 and only comes with cartridges, but the fact that this comes with a converter makes me think it might be a little bit of a better deal than average. Would you recommend it?
RavenWisteriaIf you want both it is a decent deal. Both are 2018 limited edition colors (all black is the regular Safari which is only made of plastic and the vibrant pink is the AL-Star which is a mixture of plastic and aluminium) and if you shop around both are in the $30 range depending on nib choice and the like. If you only want one or the other, a different nib option than offered, or are more agnostic about the color options, you can find slightly better deals.
RavenWisteriaIt is a great deal. The Lamy Safari I have is one of the best cheap pens I have. Better than some that are more expensive. If you are looking for a reliable pen that you can keep for years to come I suggest this drop because its basically 2 pens for the price of 1 + shipping.
For those of you who are unfamiliar with Lamy, note that ALL Lamy pens are tested at the factory before being shipped out; you may see a little residual ink on the nib and feed. If you use the included blue cartridge, no need to clean in. If you will use bottled ink in the converter, just do a couple of flushes with distilled water; you can use the converter for this. You can also just soak the nib & feed, but this will take longer.
Excellent price for the two together, plus 2 included converters. Converter is usually an extra add on at about $6-7 each. The best price I've seen for both pens elsewhere is about $60. I think I have to get in on this drop.
Please excuse me for being a bit skeptical. I am new to MassDrop. I want to believe this is legit. How can you know if these are authentic Lamy products vs. a China knockoff? Do these products come complete with warranty from Lamy and some sort of serial number that can be verified and registered with Lamy? That is a pretty deep discount especially considering the converters are thrown in? Appreciate any feedback / testimonials from members who have already done business through this site.
Thanks for the time and feedback in advance!
es28314They are grey market so no warranty on anything unless it says so. Long ago, Lamy stuff sold by Massdrop was honored as an official sale but that was some time ago. Their Lamy stuff tends to be their best deals, particularly those that are less popular stock (like say this deal, which has been two special releases that have not been selling particularly well and in limited nib size). It comes in the packaging, so if they are normally selling fakes, they are fakes that go above and beyond.
