I have the Sharp Maker, the Lansky 4 rod ceramic turnbox. and the larger Lansky Polymer. Each has it's advantages, but the 4-rod turnbox is hard to beat. Diamond rods are too "aggressive" when it comes up to "tuning up" the edge on a blade. A person shouldn't have to do much else but use the super-fine for regular use, and the 600 grit medium rods to reset an edge. They ALL work to put a scary-sharp edge on, only variable is time with different steels.

I've used this for several years and have been pleased with it, however, there is one issue you should be aware of. The wood holes will wear over time causing the rods to become loose and vibrate as you pull the blade along them. This in turn causes horrendous rippling along the edge. Lansky has another model made from plastic that is more on par with Sypderco's Sharpmaker—I would recommend that one. That said, if you are looking for something inexpensive and portable for touching up in between sharpening on more robust systems, then this should work fine. You can use tape or a toothpick shim to tighten the rods should they start to loosen.

I've been using the Turn Box for over 3 years now and I have had no issues. In combination with a leather strop all my blades are hair popping sharp as a final result. Some steels take more time than others, but I have had the same end result. It takes up very little space and can be stored pretty much anywhere and is very portable. This is very good value for your dollar and I highly recommend it to everyone who owns knives.

I have the ceramic version of this set that I keep in my "Get Home Bag," or bug-out bag if you prefer. Stays in my truck in any case, and gets lots of use when camping, kayaking etc. The ceramic version works well enough that I don't feel the need to jump on this, but if I'd had a choice between ceramic and diamond-dusted rods when I bought it, I'd have gone for the diamond option. I have a Lansky kit with diamond stones that works great, but it's nowhere near as portable or packable as this one is. If the choices of degrees you get with this package works for you, I'd recommend it in a heartbeat. I've tuned up large camp knifes made of 1095 CroVan and smaller folders made of S30V with it. The steel is what determines how long you have to spend in-process, but if you're careful and patient, you can get a great edge no matter what steel you're tuning up. Probably quite a bit less time with the diamond sticks too.
It's $25.42 on Amazon right now. https://www.amazon.com/Lansky-2D2C-Diamond-Ceramic-Four/dp/B008EKY5OA
I'm curious how it compares to the Spyderco Sharpmaker kit which looks to be a similar style.
It definitely seems like the Sharpmaker is the better option then, especially since both are very affordable.

MichaelHeartlessLike I said, I haven't tried the Lansky, so I can't speak to a direct comparison....but I do recommend the SharpMaker to those looking for this type of system, yes. I've heard they offer diamond rods to purchase separately as well, but I haven't looked into those yet (I just use my diamond plates freehand on thingd that need that)
