AmafanThe halibut doesn't have opposable thumbs for writing sadly, and the tank water would turn green upon the pen and ink entering... Maybe for the chimpanzee however, perfect gift!
I bought this pen with a fine nib in silver directly from Levenger about 2 weeks ago. It was slow to start with a cartridge. I flushed it with water and switched to the converter filled with Pilot Iroshizuku ink from a previous drop. It still takes a short stroke for it to start writing but it's not nearly as bad as it was. The stylus works really well. I've mostly used the mesh one on my phone and tablet. The tolerances on the threading on this pen are very good. The flat edges of the barrel line up perfectly. It's got a solid feel and heft to it, it's also comfortable to write with.
If you're on Levenger's mailing list you could possibly get this pen for 20% off + $6 shipping. There's other ways to work their deals and possibly get it cheaper but you're going to wait a while. This really is a great price at the lowest drop especially considering this pen came out less than a month ago.
I'm thinking it's my nib in particular. No matter what I did it was really slow to start with the cartridge. I emailed their customer service about it. They're really good about taking care of things.
Third fucking time in a row. FOUR hours after the launch email and I can't select my preferred option of Stealth/broad.
Either don't bother or set the launch to allow for people who fon't live in your fucking time zone.
The same inaccurate picture of the royal blue pen from the last drop got used again. The actual royal blue pen is much darker than the picture, and has silver ends and clip. There's an actual picture posted below.
Interestingly, all the colors on the Massdrop page have black clips/finials ... yet they are all actually chrome, not black (except the stealth model). It does say this in the Massdrop description; it's just their photos that are incorrect.
Got my "stealth" pen yesterday and first impressions are that it is an awesome looking pen, really well made and in a fabulous case. However - I'm not won over by the writing experience yet, primarily because it takes so long to get the pen started, even after just an hour or two. I'm using a Diamine black ink which suits every other pen I own. And once the Levenger is started, the ink flows nicely and it writes smoothly - even for a left-hander like me. But if it's always going to be a pain to get going, it's unlikely to be a "daily" pen.
Hi - I've been using the converter exclusively from day one. I'm using Diamine bottled ink, which I have no issues with in over 15 other pens. I will persevere with this pen as I think it looks great - but all is definitely not as it should be.
Same here... anything more than 30 seconds and it doesn't write straightaway. I can't even copy text from my computer screen without it getting stopped up.
I'm envious yours flows well. Mine (that I purchased months ago now) had horrendous flow issues that I simply could not fix no matter what I tried. I ended up purchasing a Franklin-Christoph nib and it's worked beautifully since.
(It's darker than actual moss, but the color is still a nice green)
I got in on the last drop, and have had the pen for about a week now, I recommend it to anyone, both new and seasoned members to the fountain pen world, you won't be disappointed!
Now the ultimate question, should I get a second one...
Figured it's time for a mini-review.
I was in a drop for these pens a year ago, and to be honest - after arrival I was so dismayed at their weight, I never actually tried it out - they were packed away in a desk drawer. The weight of these pens will be a shock to anyone who is used to resin-based pens. The L-Tech's are *heavy*.
Several months later, I'm tidying and found the L-Tech pens, and decided to try writing with them. I popped in the supplied black ink cartridge and started writing. To my surprise, the (F-nib) pen wrote smoothly and with just the right level of wetness (not so dry to be scratchy, not too wet to cause feathering and bleed-through).
I have a new appreciation for the L-Tech pens. They may not necessarily suit the suit and tie corporate office, but for someone with a more active lifestyle, who wants a pen that will stand up to some abuse, this is the pen for you. I wouldn't be surprised if you could drive a truck over it, and have it still work.
Hey I don't know if anyone else has had this problem so I will post in case someone has a solution. Also, feature request Massdrop! Let me search a passed drop's comments!
Problem:
Right where the section and the feed meet, this pen leaks like crazy. Any ink I put in it leaks out on the section leaving ink on my hand. I have noticed this since I have owned the pen and because of this it has hindered my use of this pen. Anyone have a solution? Imagine if you spilled ink on your grip section, that is what it is like every time I use this pen. I have other Levenger products so I know it's not a Levenger thing I think I might have a faulty pen? Any one have any ideas?
O-ring? No, there isn't. I don't know of any pen that has an o-ring around the feed. O-rings usually go around threads to seal different parts that screw together. Most commonly the nib and feed are friction-fit inside the section.
If there haven't been many changes between the different versions of this pen, this video will show you how to take the pen apart. Beware that this might void the warranty, so you might be better off doing what Jonas suggested.
KAPS1M0Yeah I can take it a part successfully and give it a proper clean. It's just this small leaking issue. It's good to see this is an isolated issue though as if this was a common one it would be a headache. I'll have to see if I can get the perfect fit. Wish me luck, I'll post back here after!
MapleshilcThat depends on your colour preference a bit though. I have a silver one with F nib in use with Iroshizuku Asa-Gao, that works perfect for me. The pen seems to be a very wet writer, so make your choice not on a to wet ink.
I joined also on this one and I've taken a stealth one with "B" nib. I intend to use it with the Diamine Jet Black ink, The complete black pen with the perfect black ink.
