highly recommend not buying a 4k monitor this small, the dpi is too small to use without scaling

fugglesThis is not something which requires speculation. It depends on how far away you sit from the monitor and also your vision as to whether or not you can discern the pixels. See https://cdn1.tekrevue.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/09/tv-size-distance-chart.png and also http://referencehometheater.com/2013/commentary/4k-calculator/ which lets you put in your visual acuity. I wouldn't be surprised if a number of people sit closer than 3.5' from their screen and have 20/20 or better vision.

fugglesI have the 24" version of this ~2-3ft from my face and I have no problems at whatever Windows 10 default scaling is.

fugglesI have dual 24" dell 4k displays on my hackintosh and have to run it at 2560x1200; otherwise, it is insanely small. Seems like 31/32" is sweet spot for running the full 4k res.

fugglesI disagree with this. If you have a mac, using scaling this makes for a nice Retina display.

megalithicAgreed if all you are doing is scaling down then I wouldn't pay a premium at this point. If you want to use it at native resolution - its personal preference. Personally >150ppi becomes a strain for me and 105-115 is a sweet spot.

fugglesHi Fuggles, I was thinking of replacing my dell 2717D with this monitor. Do you think it is worth it? I don't have any issues till now on current monitor but will it really add extra usable space with scaling? I have Macbook pro 2016. Just afraid text will be too small for my liking. I will mostly be using for programming , development, web browsing , binge watching etc. Thanks

dr_sweatpantsyou disagree with my comment about scaling, but is exactly what you'd do as well?
