ULTRA HD PERFORMANCE. Overall UHD performance was very good and showed very good HD-to-UHD upconversion. All native 4K content (non HDR) we played on this model, including movies and test videos, was presented in full 4K detail with excellent fidelity when played back via the TV’s HDMI input. This TV can stream 4K programs from Netflix and YouTube. Images were clean and finely detailed. High-resolution photos were displayed in full 4K detail. HIGH DYNAMIC RANGE (HDR) PERFORMANCE. HDR performance was generally effective, just short of the best we’ve seen. The display had decent brightness capability (by HDR standards) showing some improvement over basic 4K performance on our HDR test videos, while revealing some contrast between moder- ately bright and very bright highlights within a scene. It did a good job reproducing a greater range of nuanced shadow detail from black to white, with no obvious banding on areas of the image that have subtle shade variations. There was no visible loss of near-white shadow detail in the brightest areas. Very bright, colored objects remained nicely saturated, and an extended range of color capability was apparent from our test patterns.

I was waiting on OLED TV drop, but this imo seems like a very good drop, so joining in.

Someone please explain HDR "EFFECT".
Thats what I thought, when I noticed your "" emphasis on the word Effect, but I can understand Abula interpreting it as a basic question about HDR.
Can't say I actually KNOW the answer you want. I think it's fair to consider IPS doesn't go as dark "black" as OLED and plasma, like Abula pointed out... but it also goes quite bright on that end of the dynamic scale, with nice color accuracy and viewing angles to boot. So, the tech should be capable of "true" HDR. What I thought "HDR Effect" meant was the panel might have processing to widen the dynami range of non-HDR content... which IMO would be a very useful feature if done well.

EvshrugI hope you're right about simulating HDR with standard video sources. It may also have to do with trying to simulate HDR10 or other standards which are not native to this display for compatibility with game consoles, etc. They should explain this in the marketing better...

How does Nano Cell compare to OLED?

elauIt doesn't. Nano Cell is still LCD technology. It's pretty darn good, don't get me wrong, but OLED is still a big step up. If you want an LCD television, this is definitely the way to go.
