Little Dot makes great value and performance products! I've owned the MKII and MKIII for years, and have even used them both as main stereo preamps, driving McIntosh amps going into Magnepan planar speakers. The sound is warm, detailed, and lush... perfect for my high level tastes and expectations! And they sound phenomenal with cans! What a steal!

HamRadioANDAudioNutHi, I am also planning on using RCA Outs for connection with amped (active) speakers. The manual of the headphone amp device says the below plus suggests you should power up the amp linked to the pre-amp outs first and wait a minute.  Pre-Amplifier output impedance: 600 ohms  Pre-Amplifier Gain: 3-10x (also controlled via gain switches)  Pre-Amplifier Voltage: 10V RMS  Pre-Amplification circuit includes both driver and power tubes I am a bit confused, is 600OHM ok for active speakers? Are speakers not 4-8Ohms normally, is feeding them though 600 Ohms is fine? What active speakears are you using? I am thinking of using Q Acoustics 3020i, Audioengine A5+ or KRK RP5 G3/G5 Black. Last think I want is to burn something ;) Do you get sound off both headphones and pre-amp? If not, do you need to unplug headphones to make the pre-amp rca outs to work please? Thanks for any help here! My Sound Blaster Z has already got any outs I can use for front speakers taken so that's my only way.
LukeXtremeI have no experience using 'active' speakers. Only old school passive speakers hooked up to my McIntosh amplifier, being driven by the MKIII (currently). I have not attempted to see if I can listen to my 'cans' while the preamp is driving an amplifer. I have no need to, since i'm either listening to my cans, or my speakers. I would imagine, what you need to look for is RCA inputs in back of your active speakers (that you can connect the preamps RCA outs to), or a mini-plug that serves as an input. Hopefully, that would disable any physical volume control on your active speakers, and allow you to use the MKII or MKIII's volume knob.

HamRadioANDAudioNutOk, so I know the answer now. Pre amps are great for powered speakers, I would even say that powered speakers can take anything, even headphone amped signal. The LD mk II does modify the sound (makes it tubey) and it does amplify it too, the volume knob works. You got to have the amp on for the Pre amp here to work. My solid state amp Topping A30 works different, the Pre amp works even when the amp is off, no amplification, volume know does know, it is basically just pass through here.
