If these shoes were around $100, it would be worth it. But at over $200? No thanks.

You are exaggerating a bit - but I looked around and you can definitely find the same shoe much cheaper on for example Amazon. I am not sure why Massdrop does these things. They are often selling to a price that is the best on the market, which is the reason I would shop on Massdrop, but if they are (like in this case) $50 or $60 more than other sellers - why buy from them?
Arcticwildman
Thank you! That is exactly my point. If you can find the same or similar items on Amazon for cheaper why buy them. here? If I can find something that is one of the best on the market for the cheapest price here, obviously it is a selling point, otherwise Massdrop is no different than any other online store. Also, what happened to all the group buy discounts? There are hardly any now.
I just wish these came in more colors, like red, burgundy, or green. I have all of these Loake colors in my AE and other brand shoes. I really like this shoe for the price, but it would merely replicate what I already have. Could Loake/Massdrop consider offering more colors, at some point?
Where will these ship *from*? Living in the EU, it's a nice price, but if I have to pay VAT the price isn't that good. If it ships from UK, that won't happen.
Do these come with shoe trees? It looks like they do in some of the pictures.
Thanks!
Will they ever have width options?
How is the fit of this last compared to this last on a derby?
I think this is a nice shoe for the price. is It possible to get this same shoe in longwing?
I wear a 12E in nearly all of Allen-Edmonds‘ lasts. Anyone have a suggestion as to what size I should look at with these?
waylonrobert
I usually wear a 9.5 E in a Johnston & Murphy or a Florsheim when they were made in the U.S.. Years ago I gave the Loake brand a try in a size UK 9 F. I would give an 11.5 F a try. There are some Loake shoes offered in a G width, which is a little wider than F. Most times when Loake shoes are offered, they are a medium width or F. You can visit their website https://www.loake.co.uk/row/
$219!! That’s ridiculus. No thanks

With all due respect i think it comes down to a matter of opinion and marketing. It's a superb deal for the "BRAND NAME"...
On top of the fact that some of AE is also made in the DR...
How is it MassDrop got Loake to sell here in the US? They have an export restriction to the US currently.
In the first picture of three shoes there is a dark brown that is quite lovely but when I look at the "Dark Brown" in the pictures I am to choose from it looks like an ugly grey. I'd hate to order dark brown based on the first picture and end up with the damn ugly brown from the second picture. Which is it?
Zostrianos
Seems obvious that the greyish cast is from the lighting.
tegeus-Cromis
Perhaps, I have thought that myself. What I am looking for is for someone who has seen the dark brown or someone from the company to confirm that it is an ugly trick of the lighting. Confirmation would be more encouraging than speculation for me to risk the cash. I also watched the video and saw several scenes where the grayish color leather was present and that got me thinking it was an actual color and not a lighting artifact. Unless, of course, the artifact was also there in the video. So I'm back where I started! Thank you for your reply, it gave me a chance to spell out my issue in more detail.
If MDs get these loake 1880 lines for just 15 USD less, these will sell like crazy.
Thoughts on these shoes? I'm tempted!
In picture number three with three shoes, which color is in the front? Is that brown? That is beautiful.
Mattg1027
That's the Brown. And yes, that photo is more true to the actual product and is indeed beautiful.
If I am wearing US 7D in Allen Edmonds, am I looking at: UK 6E?
psykidellic
You'd be correct, yes.
Loake is difficult to get shipped to Canada. Will this Massdrop guarantee shipping to Canada?
Vinilo1969
If you can check out from Canada, then we're shipping there and yes it shouldn't be a problem.
Why do people like these so much? Just curious. I usually go with Allen Edmons. Ive never actually heard of Loake, do they make a cap toe derby?
quihgon
Very popular English brand. 1880 is their premium line. More sleek lasts than AE, and without AE’s obnoxiously wide welts that look like a moat around the shoe.
Are these made in England or India? I know some loaned are made in india
Davidolelep
The Buckingham is made in England
Is this the 1880 line?
TriN
yes
TriN
Correct, these are the made in the UK line. :)
Size conversion chart or am I missing it?
treeinc
Hi - thanks for asking. Loake recommends going down one size from your US size to UK size. We've added this to the note.
blouie
Thanks
I am selling mine. Anyone interested? I will offer at $150 including shipping cost. Black colour 9.5 UK size. Reason of selling: size not fitting. Too loose. I should have gone for 8.5 or 9.

But you do not need to worry about anything related to my location. I can send you the item on my responsibility and if you do not like, return is also my responsibility.
I have received my shoes. They are well built and beautiful. I am happy with the quality of the product. The size I ordered seems half a number big. It could even be right size as shoe is not loose after wearing but my toe is bit roomy. I am getting an issue. I am getting blisters on the upper of my toe area due to shoe upper. shoes are getting crease which I believe is natural as all my shoes get crease according to my foot shape when I wear them continuously and walk. But creases on this shoe is pressing my feet at toe area so strongly that I keep on getting pain long after removing shoes on my feet nerves. Any solution? Is it due to my walking style? Is it due to my shoes being a little roomy? Should I use shoe tree?
Majid
My shoes are also hurting my toe area because the crease that comes from walking with them hits in the wrong area because they fit half a size too large. I bought a pair of Dr. Scholls gel insoles, and the shoes fit much better, but now it's making my right foot hurt (around the pinky toe) because my foot is sliding forward because of the insoles.
Maybe try a few pairs of insoles (starting with thinner ones), it might fix the issue for you.

Great! I was thinking on the same lines but did not make a move. Thanks!
Anyone else get their shoes?
I ordered a 7.5 UK size, and it seems like they're quite a bit roomier than I would have liked.. I'm a size 8 on AE (Sanfords, Hales, and Strands), so I thought the corresponding UK size would be 7.5. Guess I'm out of luck here =/
jaeun87
Shoes sizes are too confusing. Now is the time shoe industry needs to standardize the sizing. I have taken part in two shoe drops on massdrop. First one - running shoes from Astra, I made a similar mistake as you have done in this drop. I wear 43 EU on most of my shoes. But when I received my Altra, they were short. It was 43 exactly as per my order but their corresponding US and U.K numbers were lesser then my other 43 shoes! I did not believe it at first but when I checked online I realized that there is no standard exist or if it exists nobody follows it. Every shoemaker has its own shoe size. One company's U.K. 9 might not be equivalent to another company's U.K. 9. And this anomaly exists for all methods be it US, UK or EU. What I have concluded is that before buying a shoe online check all number methods. If you are comfortable with a shoe size check what is the shoe's US, UK and EU's number and then correspond all those numbers to the new online shoe purchase. Regarding my second purchase, it seems I am on roomy side. I have a writen a separate comment.
Hey MD can you help me. I ahave bitter experience of online shoe purchase but I have placed my bet again on this one. But i am confused now. Almost every link on internet is giving different information. My foot size is 27.5 cm without socks. Can you please check with Loake what size will suit me?

Mine is international shipment. Not yet arrived. I will update once received. What about you?
Majid
Fit fine, just like the other pair I bought. F is a roomy medium. I put one on and it felt strange. Forgot the extra pair of laces were in the shoe. :(
Damn, keeps the loakes coming. Since nobody stateside can sell them.
If I have a high instep will these fit? I don't want the eyelets to be open with a big V shape. Allen Edmonds strands for example end up with a huge V on the eyelets for me.
Nice looking shoe. Loake 1880 is good quality too, and a brand most UK retailers aren't allowed to ship to the US. For those in the market for similar black or mid-brown oxford brogue, the Jeremy on the Tricker's Outlet will set you back about $235 shipped.
The Buckingham is an F fitting, Medium width.

love these, pure class but screw the idea of being stuck with them if they don't fit.

If you are going to buy shoes online, research that shoe and size alone.
Why not get them directly from the retailer?
This 1880 line is made in the UK right?

Yep
