Among the oldest shoemakers in England, Loake is still run today—five generations after its birth—by the Loake family. Like the founders did in the 19th century, the company’s craftsmen still construct each pair of shoes in their 1880 line using a Goodyear welt: a painstaking process that ensures the shoes are recraftable for years to come Read More

Trickers makes great country-style shoes with chunky lug soles, but their shoes really are not dressy. They are great for that tweed, ”sporting life” look with Filson-type gear and clothing, but I can’t think of a single Trickers shoe I would wear with a suit.
DRyanLockerThey‘re known for their country brogues (Bourton & Stowe) with storm welts & bellows tongues, but Tricker’s makes “town shoes”--oxfords & derbies--that are sleeker than their country shoes. Maybe they're not as dainty as C&J or some of the higher cost brands, but they're wearable with a suit.
I just received my pair ( brown) a couple days ago. The fit was a little bit big ( ordered size Uk 8 , my size US 9) , was a little slack at the back but comfortable wearing & walking at work.
At first glance the shoe looks great, but on closer inspection I noticed there was some fraying of the stitching at the heel( where the upper meets the sole. Im wondering if these may be factory seconds??? Hmmm
dkzzzzAh ok cool, that makes more sense concerning the threads.
After wearing these shoes a few more times i can say it does feel like a quality shoe that should hold up well over a long time.
In the first picture of three shoes there is a dark brown that is quite lovely but when I look at the "Dark Brown" in the pictures I am to choose from it looks like an ugly grey. I'd hate to order dark brown based on the first picture and end up with the damn ugly brown from the second picture. Which is it?
tegeus-CromisPerhaps, I have thought that myself. What I am looking for is for someone who has seen the dark brown or someone from the company to confirm that it is an ugly trick of the lighting. Confirmation would be more encouraging than speculation for me to risk the cash. I also watched the video and saw several scenes where the grayish color leather was present and that got me thinking it was an actual color and not a lighting artifact. Unless, of course, the artifact was also there in the video. So I'm back where I started! Thank you for your reply, it gave me a chance to spell out my issue in more detail.
Anyone else get their shoes?
I ordered a 7.5 UK size, and it seems like they're quite a bit roomier than I would have liked.. I'm a size 8 on AE (Sanfords, Hales, and Strands), so I thought the corresponding UK size would be 7.5. Guess I'm out of luck here =/
jaeun87Shoes sizes are too confusing. Now is the time shoe industry needs to standardize the sizing. I have taken part in two shoe drops on massdrop. First one - running shoes from Astra, I made a similar mistake as you have done in this drop. I wear 43 EU on most of my shoes. But when I received my Altra, they were short. It was 43 exactly as per my order but their corresponding US and U.K numbers were lesser then my other 43 shoes! I did not believe it at first but when I checked online I realized that there is no standard exist or if it exists nobody follows it. Every shoemaker has its own shoe size. One company's U.K. 9 might not be equivalent to another company's U.K. 9. And this anomaly exists for all methods be it US, UK or EU. What I have concluded is that before buying a shoe online check all number methods. If you are comfortable with a shoe size check what is the shoe's US, UK and EU's number and then correspond all those numbers to the new online shoe purchase.
Regarding my second purchase, it seems I am on roomy side. I have a writen a separate comment.
Where will these ship *from*? Living in the EU, it's a nice price, but if I have to pay VAT the price isn't that good. If it ships from UK, that won't happen.
quihgonVery popular English brand. 1880 is their premium line. More sleek lasts than AE, and without AE’s obnoxiously wide welts that look like a moat around the shoe.
