SeanReidThanks for always trying to offer shipping to EU. It would be really nice to have Massdrop in EU, does not really matter which country, no customs, which can be quiet a nightmare, and cheaper shipment costs.
So, I picked up a pair of these on the Bazaar clearance before Christmas this last year, and I am quite impressed. The dimensions listed might prepare you for something large, but it's quite another thing to see it. These cabinets are quite big. If you don't have ample space, forget it. I bought a pair of floor stands for these to sit behind my desk.
Their sound is quite good. The highs are very crisp and accurate, and the mids are detailed. The low driver leaves something to be desired in impact, but you won't be missing out on any tones here. The M3-8s don't try to reproduce frequencies they can't, leading to tight, accurate bass. I highly recommend a subwoofer with these.
Other users have noted a hiss coming from these amps, and I do have to mention, if they're not attached to clean power, they will hiss. I have a power conditioner attached to mine, and unless you have them at unreasonably high gain, or put your ear right to the high driver, the hiss is eliminated.
Speaking of gain, these get louder than most people could reasonably want them to. I keep them on -12db gain when attached to my setup (Schiit Modi2u), and I fear for my hearing if I'm in the same room when they're above 50% volume.
Physically, these speakers are built very well, and the finish is quite nice. They would look great in a living room, if you're okay with them not having grilles. The plate amp is solid, and all the toggles and dials feel well constructed.
The only gripe I have with these lies in the mid to low crossover at 4.9KHz. There is a dip that is slightly larger than I would like to hear at that point, but it can be compensated for. I found that dip to be about -3 to -5 db relative.
Feel free to message me for more information.
whoa, very tempting. i've got old m-audio 8 inch two way in my photo studio and 5 inch two way in my processing printing area, and they are amazing. guess i've got four days to come up with a good story for my wife/cfo about why i need these instead.
tvorWhat was the cost? I asked and no one answered. I somehow missed this and i wanted to know what the cost including shipping was, so i could possibly request it.
I was really debating with myself about getting these on the last drop but I think the 8's are probably too big for my room. Would love to see you guys drop the M3-6's
cosm0catWe hope to make them available to the community very soon. As of now they are back ordered for some time, but keep checking back for regular updates. The M3-8 is a beast of a monitor, you will likely not need to upgrade for a while if you had these. And these being three-way monitors they are not only ideal for music, but great for video game and film audio editing and mixing.
Thanks for your post!
Got mine all set up. These things are HUGE and awesome. I have stands coming tomorrow and the cables I need for the balanced connector without dragging out my whole mixer setup/etc. So far I'm very happy. Sound is great and it should only improve with stands and using a balanced connection!!
tvorSo glad to hear you like them!
If you have a chance please post a pic of your setup or an audio track you mixed with them. We love it when our members share their passions and work with us.
Maybe someday soon they will make a matching subwoofer for these?
