Weighing just 2.8 ounces, the Maserin Carbon is easy to carry, and even easier to look at. It features a lightweight yet sturdy carbon fiber handle with a gleaming weave pattern running throughout, which gives the folder a refined aesthetic Read More
lol, good! That was getting confusing. n690 is supposed to perform similarly to VG10. Both are superior to AUS8. You have the better version.
gui3gui did mention he received the n690 thumbstud version.
The lanyard hole is on the wrong end. The idea of a lanyard is to assist in pulling the knife out of the sheath, pocket, etc. and to act as an assist to lengthen the length of the knife for the hand. Having a lanyard at the open end of the clip serves little to no purpose. I have no idea why knife manufacturers sometimes get this wrong. I like Maserin knives and have a few of them but this is a major defect for me, especially when the handle is so short that it needs a lanyard.
Again, I agree with you. That is becuase the clip is attached on MOST knives opposite of the pivot end. The solution with the Maserin would be to have provided threaded holes on the back end of the knife where the heal of your have would rest so that the clip could be flipped around and positioned there - where the lanyard hole already exists. Problem solved.
However, Maserin chose not to provid threaded holes so you cannot move the clip. As it stands, you still cannot possition a lanyard hole on the Pivot end, where the end of the clip currently is, because inserting a lanyard ther would interfere with the opening and closing of the knife - right?
I agree! This is one of the few knives where you can't configure it to your liking - the clip needs to be attached to the other end of the handle.
glennacI have no idea what you mean by threaded hole, a lanyard hole is not threaded and the clip holes for the screws to hold it on are threaded? You I have totally clouded the issue which was this knife put the lanyard hole at the wrong end relative to the clip position which is very rare. This item has ended long ago, I did not buy it for the reason that they got it wrong. You could have fooled me that you agree with me.
Maugust09Yes, same questions here. Thumbstud yes/no is significant regarding buying decision. Question is specific to what will ship to current buyer vs any previous drop(s).
Yes it was the model from massdrop.
There are two models called maserin carbon, the 392 cn's model with aus8 steel which is the knife in the pictures of massdrop and the the 3902 which I've received from massdrop with a thumbstud as related on Blade forums.com.
They said on baldeforum that most pictures don't show this. But It's n690 steel.
So I think, that if Massdrop would be clarify this, it will be fine for the futurs buyers.
Although it states pocket clip to be "tip carry up" the picture suggest "tip down"? It does not appear to have the option for turning the clip around. Clarity please. Really like the knife but do not like tip down carry only.
Hey @hmorales1 -- Thanks, good catch. The specs were accurate but the text of the description did not match; we've corrected this to reflect the tip-down only carry. Sorry that's not for you, I'm happy to pass that along to the vendor and ask about making it reversible.
My first knife. Took it apart the other day after 1.5 years ownership cause it wasn't too smooth. Don't know if this is useful info but here's what I saw. Still loving the carbon fiber though.
Haha you're right about that. Just an uneducated guess but I'm thinking there is something wrong with it rusting. I'm live in Arizona where humidity is 0% year round.. Could be wrong though. Also wish this guy has ball bearings for a bit more $.
wangminzeIf you live in Arizona, you would know that humidity fluctuates where you live. 0 percent is just fantasy. Tucson ranges from about 25 percent to about 50 percent during the day. During the monsoons and Winter storms it even gets higher, although despite this, the humidity is still low enough for airlines and the military to store their hardware here bc nothing really rusts here. The sun on the other hand is just violent. Why don't you lay your carbon fiber knife on a window sill and see what happened after a year? Might be an interesting experiment?
RudolphThe Description and Photos appear to be incorrect. Folks who have received this knife in earlier drops are reporting N690 steel and the presence of a thumb stud. (See comments below)
