I noticed that the description says the fill is goose/duck down. Duck down is less durable and less costly. What is the percentage of goose to duck down?

oneyum@oneyum - 50% goose, 50% duck. Can you provide an unbiased reference that duck down is less durable? The references I have found are all from companies selling down, or marketing their goose down as better than duck. Nemo has the least-biased up-to-date page I've seen: http://www.nemoequipment.com/duck-duck-goose-a-comparison-of-insulations/

DannyMilksThanks. I guess processes andsituations change over time. I have no studies, but 30 years ago I think "common knowledge" was that duck down was less desirable probably because of the way it was processed. This much the same way artificial fibers were less desirable than cotton. Thanks again.

oneyumNot a problem, @oneyum . And I hope I didn't imply that you were being biased. Rather, it is typically the companies that sell only goose down who claim it's superior to duck down . . . and then charge more for it. From all the UL companies I've talked to, they all agree that good duck down is the same as good goose down. That wasn't always the case, as you know, and the duck down on the market was poor quality up until the last decade or two. Things have changed for the better. Also consider that duck down is more affordable because it's more abundant (as a by-product of the meat industry), rather than being cheaper because it's inferior. Hope this helps!

DannyMilksHelps tremendously. Now the only issue is whether I can get up early enough to get a June or July delivery date.

DannyMilksyes, properly processed down from either bird is practically indistinguishable. Goose down tends to be larger than duck down, which does have advantages in insulation to weight ratio, but my guess is you'd have to have significantly more down than any reasonable bag or quilt would contain in order to reach a weight savings worth bragging about.
