At first I did not like the veiled vocals in some of my tracks but then I twisted a little bit the pads to an orientation similar to the TH-X00 (but a bit less) and now these cans sound a little bit better. I dont know if it is placebo but it worked in my case. Now it sounds perfect to me with the exact amount of bass and decent vocals clarity.

zekkenMind sending pics? moving from my old pair of msr7, the veiled vocal is disgusting.
The only good thing I've experienced with this is that I got a #0012.
Edit: Found out my amp is barely adequate to run this cans. Anyone have any experience with schiit magni 2U/3 or should I splurge out and get an iCAN SE?

KIMI_KIMIJust turn the pad a little bit but I think it was placebo at the end. I suspect that changing the pads can make a big difference in these headphones as if you press down the cups, the sound is really different. I just ordered the HM5 sheepskin. I will post my impressions if the sound improves!

zekkenI'm really looking forward to hearing what your impressions are as far as fit goes and certainly comfort and sound as well. Let us know for sure. And if you have other phones you end up trying them with, let us know too (just because). I have these T-X0 and also have k7xx they should work with as well as hifiman he4xx and Sennheiser hd6xx on the way as well. Trying to get an idea of which phones will do what with simple mods such as pads even. Thanks in advance and for letting us know about the sale!

ChumbWumbaTake this with a grain of salt, but somewhere in r/headphones someone whom claimed have done many mods for the t50rp suggested that the best pad for it is the ZMF Oval earpads, can't confirm.

ChumbWumbaI ordered the normal sheepskin ones (no angled). So we can compare both models then :D

KIMI_KIMII have the Magni 3 and they arrived on the same day. It provides 1w @ 50 ohms and it the cans really open up with high detail at high volume. I would be curious to try an extra high gain amp and see if I can replicate the high detail at lower volumes. These cans exaggerate bad source more then any can I have experienced as well, another thing to consider.

jm090Im considering of getting the audio-gd R2R 11, made a reservation to demo it next week. It sold like hot cakes so they had to order a new set for me to audition it. I'll give my input on the amp synergy, btw is the vocal still veiled when used with the magni 3?

KIMI_KIMIIm using a schiit stack config (Modi 2 Uber + Vali 2 / Magni 2) and at first the vocals where really veiled compared to my other headphones (HD6XX, TH-X00, T40 RP mk3). What really helped a lot is to leave the headphones playing pink noise. After +50 hours of playing, sound is much less veiled but still veiled compared to my other headphones. I hope the new pads (arrives tomorrow) will make them sound more to my taste :D

ChumbWumbaI received the pads today. They are really soft and really comfy, however, it's a little bit hard to install them. Once installed, they fit really tight on the headphones (which is good from my pov). About the sound, I really don't like it. With these pads, the seal is so damn good that the bass is even more noticeable, making the sound to feel really congested.
At the end what I have done is to "mod" the headphones. It's a pity because the cups are sealed with double sided tape and opening it totally breaks the tape and inside there is a lot of damping work from Fostex, so makes me feel bad to "modify" it. About the mod, what I did is to add a layer of cotton in front of the ventilation grill. The size of the cotton was about 4,6cm x 2,5cm x 0.5cm and folded (two layers). Combined with the skeepskin pads, the sound is much more pleasant to me, tight bass, less veiled vocals, similar highs and really clear sound.

My conclusions are: -Burning really opens these cans and makes them sound much less veiled (I did +50h of pink noise). -Stock pads are really good. These headphones have been tunned to be paired with the stock pads as using others like HM5 sheepskin pads make them sound congested. -Adding cotton == reduced but tighter bass

zekkenQuite interesting to see your results! Thanks a bunch for giving us your impressions on them. I wanted to try a set of alcantara pads from the shure 1540 but they wouldn't fit on these T-X0's. I'll report back tomorrow or shortly thereafter about my pads once they arrive. Thanks for the comprehensive look at how yours were affected by the change in pads!
