I bought small quantity of 3M SJ3551 Dual Lock Type 400 on eBay (pretty cheap around $5 shipped). I used the extra mounts we got as a template to cut out my own. It holds very securely now and doesn't just fall off. It can now hold the weight of my AKG K553s w/ cord no problem. There is still a small amount of wobble, but it doesn't really affect using the microphone. The adhesive does seem like the weak point now, as I have to slightly shift the mount off before pulling it away. Otherwise the adhesive starts to peel off.
Guess how many contact points I have now? ~80. I didn't cut my mount out perfectly, but close enough to what Massdrop had on their test unit.
