Why drop just the amp and not the DAC too?

bicyclemonkeyTo be honest they should just have the ODAC version. Just the amp is meh, I have a mix matched setup with O2 with Modi 2 Uber. There's no point of me getting a Schiit stack because there will be no improvements for me to buy a Magni 2 Uber. You many think you don't want a DAC but when you have one you don't want to play music without one.

bicyclemonkeyIt depends of your needs. I my case athough I have a Dragonfly Red Dac, some reviewers have pointed out that the internal Dacs on Apple products (iPhone, iPad, Macbook Pro...) are very good quality, with audio output surpassing in many cases some external Dacs. Therefore, an amp such as the O2 without Dac may be more than enough in such cases. In my case I will also use my Onkyo Network Receiver as a source, which has a very good quality internal Dac (AKM 32 bit DAC). I may eventually buy the OL DAC from JDS to stack it with the O2, but for the reasons given above it is not a priority right now. The desktop O2 version under 100$ is therefore a good deal and will be a good low cost complement to my HD6xx...

6EQUJ5I actually swing the other way. In my neck of woods a Focusrite 2i4 costs 120 quids, about the same as an ODAC but then I get balanced outs for my studio monitors + unbalanced line-outs to connect to my headphone RCA ins. Heck, even a decent mic+instrument pre for that odd Skype music session in decent audio..lol. Keeping Headphone amp and dac separate is always a good idea. And when it comes to D/A converters, pro-audio is heard to beat.

bicyclemonkeyDoubt we'll ever see the dac here again. Odacs can only be made by YoYoDyne under the licencing agreement with nwavguy. There's far more potential profit for massdrop with the o2

bicyclemonkeyI do have and standalone O2 because I don't really need a DAC and because I was on a budget on last year, so this is a great deal for people like (I got the O2 for like 130€? I don't remember), or maybe people who already bought a DAC. And like other guy said, they should made a contract with these other to make a drop and won't get too much profite. I guess that includes the combo and the standalone DAC too.

bicyclemonkeyI've been waiting for the ODAC for ages... I think someone at Massdrop must've had a bad breakup with the ODAC, though, because they absolutely refuse to offer it.

bicyclemonkeyYou won't probably see any ODAC/combo here again. Unlike O2, ODAC's USB controller chip is licensed and distributed by YoYoDyne, who I believe, has no interest to sell their chip to anyone besides jds/mayflower. That's why Chinese won't bother manufacturing O2-ODAC combo even though they can do that dirt cheap if they want.
