Got to say I'm really disappointed with massdrop. I was online when the first drop happened, watching it grow from 300 joined to 5000 in, like, a half an hour... Once I realized its gonna only be 5000 units, I started trying to join the drop every time being rejected by some kind of technical problem or something. When the drop ended I said to myself 'oh well.. no worries, at least now I got time to gather some money for the next time it will drop', little did I know it's gonna take ages. Since then I visit massdrop about every day, fearing they gonna drop it again limiting the units like they did... I really wasn't going to miss the second drop as well. Now, it's about 4 months later and judging by the number of requests and that this discussion is still very much an active one - I think massdrop is acting kind of ungreatfully with its followers.
Every day people are asking what's going on, and I realize it's massdrops interest to keep people guessing so that they visit the site more regularly. But in this case it is a strait up f*** you to this audience.
Massdrop - you guys seriously need to provide some information about what's going on. At minimum - is it going to drop again? Ever? If yes, is it going to happen in 2017? In the next 6 months?

ofirtalThey don't owe you anything my friend. Also They don't necessarily hold all the power. It really depends on whether or not Sennheiser wants this to happen. And with the headphone cable issue I can't imagine Sennheiser wants another round of this.
With that said, a lot of these are being sold frequently, or at least the 650's are. Check reddit avexchange.

ineverpayretailMassdrop don't owe me anything, but as a costumer frequently purchasing on this web site, its a matter of courtesy to provide info regarding the possibility of a future drop. As you said, it's not sure if Sennheiser would want another drop to happen again, and if this is the case - well, there are almost 52000 people that should stop waiting and start to consider the alternatives more seriously. there's a good chance I would have bought the akg 7xx (or any other pair in the price range) by now if I knew that there's no chance for another drop... so you can say it's in Massdrops best interest as well.

ofirtalI purchased headphones in the first batch of m1060's (after going through what you did to a certain extent) and am so glad I missed this drop!!! If you can get the m1060 when they have more I would highly advise. When life gives you lemons make lemonade.

ofirtalYou're demanding an answer that Massdrop themselves wouldn't know, and are not obligated to give either.
Just request the drop again and if both MD and Sennheiser decide to drop again, you'll get an email. If not, move on, there're a lot of other headphones that are superior than the HD6XX.

deFiniLoGyIn the $200 range though? It is a bit of a dick move to create such a good deal for a universally praised headphone, knowing that a lot of people are going to want it, and still limiting it to one drop with 5000 units.

HellreaverWell I'm not disputing that. And what their "best interest" is is debatable.

HellreaverYeah, but you're not arguing against anything that I said. Of course they're going to do what's in their "best interest," that's a given. What they think their best interest is and how they accomplish this best interest is what's important. I'm saying doing this drop with only 5000 units is kind of a dick move if they don't drop it again, considering 53,000 people have requested it and they probably knew this much people would request it.

sweatersMy problem with the whole thing is that we don't even know if there's a chance for another drop. You know what, I'd be super pissed at Dan Harmon if they didn't say out loud "there's going to be season 3 of Rick and Morty". How annoying would that be if they just let us wait without saying nothing, right?

ofirtalNow, let's assume that you indeed were visiting massdrop almost every day. You read the thread, posted stuff and probably wasted at least 10 -15 hours. Why not to find a second job for $10 per hour, make $100-150 and buy hd650 on Amazon right away instead of wining here? Assuming that you are in US, Canada, Australia or Western Europe where these kinds of minimum wages exist.
over 50k requested it again and if Sennheiser thinks that it makes sense to drop 6xx again, they will most definitely make it happen. If second drop never happens there are tons of cans out there. No offence.

ilcg1And you can also stay out of my financial decisions. no offence.
I'm making a point here, Massdrops refers to us as a community and in every business school they will teach you about the importance of an open communication between the comp and the costumer. Being unhappy with the way things are managed is legitimate, not whining.

ofirtalI wish they would teach common sense in business schools...
Community's communication with Massdrop is reflected in the number of requests (the highest ever for any product on MD). This and popularity of first drop (I think this was also the most popular drop ever judging by the number of units sold within certain time frame) is more than enough for them to understand crowd's interest in 6xx.
Your "communication" here is just a plain whining ("fearing the miss the drop" etc.). MD is not a manufacturer of hd6xx and has very limited influence on Sennheiser
Sennheiser's 2015 revenue was 686.2 mln euro. 5000*200=1mln USD or just 0.9mln in Euro (just a little more than 0.1% of revenue). What is their net on this drop (after manufacturing and MD's cut and cable fiasco) I don't know, but I think it's not much. Plus they lost 5,000 potential 650 or 600 buyers. Honestly, I think it doesn't make sense for them to do these drops anymore, unless they have a stockpile of raw materials or new much better 6-series cans are on they way.
Some might say, but look at AKG - they are able to deliver at$200, even though k712 retails for $300+. AKG is owned by Harman and Sennheiser is a family owned and their approach to business is obviously different. Sennheiser value their brand name (that's the only thing they have) and for Harman AKG is just another business division.
Every company and management care only about one thing - bottom line, no matter what they say in their PR releases.
Anyway, this conversation can go on and on and on. If Sennheiser doesn't need another drop, your whining won't help.

ilcg1 "Community's communication with Massdrop is reflected in the number of requests"
You're missing the point. The community's communication with Massdrop is not exclusively limited to the number of requests. There's the discussion forums, emails, etc... Of course Massdrop knows the 6XX is popular, and probably knew it would be. As ofirtal said, the "problem with the whole thing is that we don't even know if there's a chance for another drop." It's been four months since the first drop. That's just bad communication and it's frustrating.

ilcg1What the hell are you talking about man? Firstly, randomly stating figures doesn't make you sound smart. I mean, Can you please explain what relevance Sennheisers yearly revenue has to this discussion? Your understanding of business is just funny... For example, do you really believe they LOST 5,000 potential buyers? In a word- lol.
Secondly, I am fully aware of the limitations in this case and how little control MD has over manufacturing - but it's just not relevant. The fact of the matter is that I'm an active Massdrop costumer, and believe me - firms pay top dollar for every bit of info regarding their costumer desires or dissatisfactions. This attitude, labeling complains as 'whining', is simply childish. We are costumers - complaining is what we do, and businesses need that.
Thirdly, by 'communication' I meant a two way line of communication, genius. Obviously they know there's demand for the product, I mean come on... What I was talking about was an active conversation with your audience, you know, keeping up with your people? Staying in touch and giving updates about decision making processes, upcoming ventures and also producs that are taken off the shelf. It's really marketing 101 man...
Now, you don't have to agree with me, but understand that it's completely normal for costumes to rant and vent. In part, this is what this forum is for.
