I have to admit my ignorance when you guys start getting into discussions of how much power is enough and what DACs or amps are required to adequately drive certain headphones. Complicating matters, I am typically plugging my headphones into a musician-geared audio interface rather than a dedicated headphone amp or single-purpose DAC device... in my case a Focusrite Scarlett 18i8. Do any of you gurus have an opinion on whether the headphone outputs on my 18i8 would be sufficient to drive these and/or the HIFIMAN HE4XX (I will end up with both I'm sure...) Thanks and apologies for foisting my ignorance on this topic upon you...

ixemulYou can look purely at the spec and output of the Scarlette 18i8 and see if it can drive it (which it probably can). The hifiman he 400 isn't had to drive but will always benefit from a good dac/amp combo. I say you try it out see if you're satisfied with the sound and volume produced, if not get yourself a dedicated amp/dac combo for your headphones.

ThujanThanks, I'll keep digging around for those specs, but I guess the proof is always in the pudding, so to speak.
