Had a chance to listen to the newly arrived LCX for a few hours. Source is hifi TIDAL to Chord Mojo with line out via Audioquest Golden Gate 3.5 to RCA to LCX with XLR balanced output via LQI to MrSpeakers Aeons Closed: so everything is focused on the neutral and detailed sound. Listened to Rasputina (O Perilous World), World/Inferno Friendship Society (East Coast Super Sound Punk of Today!), Frenchy and the Punk, Bueno Vista Social Club, The Clash (London Calling), and Muddy Waters collection.
So far so good. The sound is much fuller than straight from Mojo, with more substance to music. The balance is still neutral, with both male and female voices coming through very nicely. Very good detail retrieval, and better stage. Nice base, both quantity and texture. Highs are there, with no sibilance. So very nice and full neutral sound, and a good pairing with planars. I was afraid of the excessive smoothness (with "syrupy smooth" description as applied to Cavalli sound by some ), but was very pleasantly surprised to still have all the edginess where warranted (Chicago blues, punk) while having the nice and full sound where needed (Buena Vista). The box is a little warm after being on continuously for over six hours, but not too warm. The volume knob is at around 10 to 11 o'clock most of the time. Overall, it sounds like a keeper.
