Any chance we could get an official comment on the disparity between the stated specs and the measurements from Audio Science Review? They paint a poor picture for this amp, disappointingly.

BurritoJusticeHaha, that happens pretty often in that forum. Let's say Amirm is probably cursed to always get faulty units. On "rare occasions" he might get a good working unit. And... I also wonder why Amirm didn't run the balanced test of this amp, but could do the test on the THX balanced. I am no "Audio Scientist" as Amirm is, I am only a stupid mortal buying gadgets here and there, but I surely enjoy my Massdrop LCX amp and it sounds great to my trained musician's ears. I use my LCX with my Audio GD R2R 1 or SMSL SU8 and I hear no distortion whatsoever while listening my Focal Elex, HD800s, or Sundara using the balanced or unbalanced outs. BTW, I also love my Massdrop THX, but not enough to part with my LCX.

ArtifizI also have both but the SE part of the amp is flawed. Full balanced it is quite nice.

ArtifizI heard slight distortion in my amp going se input at zero to low volume. I liked the amp tone but had to sell to fund for monoprice liquid platinum. Thx amp is 100x cleaner imo. Liquid platinum is paradise to my ears.

ludachrisI also sold my MD LCX after trying out the Monoprice Liquid platinum, its definitely an upgrade. I used my LCX with my Topping D50 and never heard a distortion at any level. I also tested it with my SMSL SU-8 v1 using the dac's balanced outs and not even the slightest hiss from the LCX.

ludachrisGiven that the Monoprice LP is a $700 amp and is a tube hybrid design, can you really compare it to a $300 all solid state amp? They are just very different designs and price points.

ludachris" I liked the amp tone but had to sell to fund for monoprice liquid platinum. Thx amp is 100x cleaner imo. Liquid platinum is paradise to my ears. " Right there you are comparing this amp to the Liquid Platinum. Do you not know what you even said?

EniGmA1987I said the thx amp is cleaner. I never compared the monoprice platinum to the liquid carbon x. You misread everything.

ArtifizPlease can you describe the difference between in sound presentation between the LCX and the 789? I have the 789 and the Airist. I recently ordered the CHT but it hasn't arrived yet. Headphones: HD800S, HD650, Shure SRH1540.

Ninja_TheoryIts been a long time since i sold the LCX, but from memory I can say that the LCX I owned had a warmer tone, maybe tube like, but not round, a little edgy. The 789 is clearer and has a much more wider sound stage. I don't know if it was just my LCX unit, but I always heard distortion if I turned the volume up all the way and no music or sound playing through the dac. This doesn't happens with my 789, its all silent, no distortion. Dont get me wrong, I was happy with my LCX, but the 789 is a mile ahead in tonality.
