So, this popping up again got me to pull out my Buc last night....originally planning to just take it apart and try to stiffen up the detent, but on a whim I decided to just anodize it while I had it apart LOL
Started out the original dark grey with blue backspacer and clip I left the dark finish and just anodized right over that to see what would happen
search
Super hard to capture in pictures, but at 12v it darkened the grey even further and gave it a deep purple undertone when the light hits it right
Then I scuffed the corners with a rust eraser sponge and dipped again at 9v for a deep bronze at the 'wear areas'
search
For the clip and backspacer I left the blue as is, but did the same rust eraser edging followed by an 11v bath for a slightly brighter bronze
search
Detent could still be a little stronger holding the blade shut IMO......but I love the looks of it MUCH more now
In person the colors are so much better than I could get them on screen, nice and subtle around the wear areas and very natural looking

KavikIs anodizing easy to do? I'd love to learn. Any good tips or links?

JsunkdI'm pretty new to it myself, this is the first real finished piece I've done, after a few random tests on a different knife handle
I've been meaning to start a thread here where we can all discuss anodizing in its own section, we've cluttered up too many drop's comments lol
I'll try to work on that soon, keep an eye out for it in the blades "talk" section

JsunkdHere you go. No content yet, but i made a placeholder that I'll continue updating over the next few days as I have time to take pics and gather links

KavikI was wondering about anodizing over the grey. Might have to try it myself

Gunnersmate2I figured, worst case scenario, I'd have to strip it and start again, right? Lol
I'm not sure what it'd do on lighter, higher voltage colors, but I love how it turned out for this

KavikDid you know you can't get any replacement parts for any ff collaboration knife. Massdrop doesn't offer them and I emailed Ferrum Forge Knifeworks and was informed they have no parts for any collaboration knife on massdrop. Not even pocket clip screws.

Gunnersmate2I would think WE would be the ones to contact for that, as the manufacturer... Did you try them?

Kavikmike.j with the collaboration team just responded and stated he and Jonas(I think I spelled that correctly)are working on it and would be in contact this week. I am going to contact WE also.

KavikFor us who modify our knives it would be nice if parts were available imo.

Gunnersmate2Sure, but i wouldn't expect a retailer or designer to provide them, that would always come from the manufacturer, i would think
That's like going to Target and asking their game department for a replacement power cord for the Xbox you bought there lol

KavikYa but I don't have to go to Microsoft to get the power cord.

Gunnersmate2I follow WE knife on Instagram and asked them:
“Do you guys have replacement parts for Massdrop x Ferrum Forge x WE collaborations...like for the Dao, the Buc, the Crux, etc?”
We’ll see what they say. They’re usually pretty responsive when I ask them questions on Instagram about their knives. Who knows if they can answer this question. You will probably have to contact customer service at www.weknife.com or sales@weknife.com

DougFLA123Right. IMO and for me, everyone that actually contributes and takes the time to post questions, concerns, answers and direction for problem solving , is what makes this a go to site. Most all of us can find good and great deals for knives and the products we want to buy elsewhere. It's the community that makes this an awesome site. So to everyone thank you for helping me and everyone who is invested or concerned with this issue.

Gunnersmate2This is what WE Knife responded with but I personally think it should be WE who supplies replacement parts. The WE instagram guy might not know what WE customer service or WE sales department would know about replacement parts.
From WE:

Find your way over to the Anodizing thread in the "Talk" section if you want more details or to see other experiments in anodizing 😁

Kavik OK, I’m sending you my knife to get anodized ; that looks fantastic!! ... definitely an improvement. Inquiry from someone who’s about to use a Lansky Deluxe, for the first time (Will practice on other blades, before I put a stone to some of these I have, with a really nice metal.); what angle do you recommend/is ideal, for sharpening this blade?? Thanks, much ! OneFreeMan

OnefreemanThanks man, glad you like it 😁 It wouldn't be very hard to do another 😉 To be honest, i haven't even sharpened this one. I have so many I'm cycling through lately, and so little cutting to do recently, I haven't had the need to And when I do...I mostly do by hand, so can't tell you the exact angles I use anyway I haven't had complaints with the factory bevel angle so far though. When it needs it I might drop it back a degree or two to see if it'll hold a keener edge, and if it doesn't then I'll bring it back up

OnefreemanI wrote to We Knife Co (who made the Buc) and they said they usually sharpen their blades to angles of between 25 and 30 degrees (each side of course). I know Zero Tolerance blades are sharpened to angles of between 20 and 22 degrees. I guess it depends on how slicey you want it.
