How thick are these? would they provide good padding for walking around in boots?

In my opinion quit thick. I walked more 200 km, solid rock terrain, no problem with feet. I used La Sportiva TX4 boots.

I wouldn't consider these "padded" socks. You might look at SuperFeet or some other liner for that purpose.

These socks have lasted me a long time so far, worn for hiking, biking, working on cars, landscaping taken a lot of abuse, but still in great condition! Highly Recommend

Yes they are thick in my opinion. Less than a pair of Darn Tough that I bought here but I actually like them better. I have 3 pairs and they are my "best"socks at the moment so I keep them for hiking and crossfit
