I just wanted to post my follow up experience/wear issue with Fitsok. I called Fitsok, was put in touch with Nathan, one of the company's owners. He kindly told me how to order replacement socks through the website and they would send them out to me.
The company has a great warranty and KNOWS how to take care of customer service. In no way, did I think I would be contacted by company representatives and offered replacement socks after my initial post! When I made my post, I was just sharing my experience with the socks as I never do reviews or follow ups with personal product experience. I'm glad I did.
Thank you you for taking care of business FITSOK! A first-class outfit.
KeeferWow, I have had one sock fail on me, but nothing remotely close to this. I was rather frustrated considering the price per sock/pair, but this is on a completely different level of disappointment. Other than the one sock thus far, they have been quite satisfactory.
What is the % merino wool on these socks? They're cleverly ambiguous
It says 73%, but that's 73% of the sock is itself a "blend" of merino/polyester? How much merino wool is really in these things?
Hi! I'm so sorry for the delayed responses from our side. The packing slips are with Fitsok and they have currently fulfilled over half of the orders. I am working with Fitsok and our team to get a more formal update out to everyone asap. But wanted to give you guys an update in the meantime. To be clear, this is not an issue from Fitsok side. This is a Massdrop specific issue. Fitsok have been amazing partners during the production of this sock. :)
Buyer beware: these are NOT 73% merino wool as advertised. I received mine a few days ago and they are actually 58% merino wool - marked clearly on the sticker holding the pair together. I contacted Massdrop about this and they didn’t do anything to rectify the discrepancy.
I no longer have the label. When I received the socks I confirmed through the manufacturer’s site they are indeed 58% wool.
I usually wear a size 11.5“shoes and the large fit really well. Going a size down is recommended (thanks everyone).
I’m quite happy with these socks even if they are 15% less wool than advertised here. They are thick, well made and comfortable. Would buy again.
Prickle5Thanks for taking the time to reply.
Massdrop advertised that the socks were 73% Merino Wool, and Coolmax Polyester combined.
I guess that I can extrapolate that the Coolmax percentage is 15% by taking the combined total of 73% minus the actual 58% Merino Wool Fibre content.
Of course there is also an infusion of silver, which kills bacteria, and 15% nylon and 10% polypropylene, for added durability, and moisture wicking, and 2% lycra for stretch.
The Coolmax Polyester is well known for its excellent wicking properties, as is the Merino Wool, just not as well as the Coolmax, which is why manufacturers started combining wool with other moisture wicking fibres like Coolmax Polyester, Nylon, Tencel, Lyocell, Rayon, and Bamboo.
Merino wool is thermo regulating, and will still insulate when wet, and is well known for its antibacterial properties, so when combined with the silver, this sock should never exhibit any odor.
Based upon the mix of fibres, this should be a very durable sock, that will remain odor free, while exhibiting excellent breathing and and moisture wicking properties.
Due to the facts that these socks are made with hydrophobic fibres, your feet should stay dry, and you should not experience any blisters.
Hi! The website specification says:
73% merino wool and Coolmax polyester infused with silver, 15% nylon, 10% polypropylene, 2% spandex
but the socks label says:
56% merino, 40% nylon and 24% spandex.
Is it right? Massdrop.com lies their customers?
It is a huge difference, isn't it? This difference makes difference!!
These socks are really the bomb! I was the foot model for these and got to wear them around a lot. They are cozy and warm, and extremely comfortable while hiking in the redwoods!
I had to look that up. My first guess was Ray was a country or folk with a song related to Mountain Crew. I was surprised it was a Seinfeld reference. I remember that episode but would not have ever known that name!
DannyMilksHa, yeah I just happened to watch that episode a couple days ago. Between the low talker, the puffy shirt, and the hand model thing, I think that's still a strong contender for funniest TV show episode ever.
I have some other Fitsoks, and I was about to purchase but then I noticed this bit, "Coolmax polyester infused with SILVER."
Silver, typically nano-silver 'infused' products for anti-microbial properties, are harmful to marine and aquatic life -- and release into rivers, lakes and streams as they are washed over their lifetimes. They may also present health risks to humans, but thorough health and safety testing has not been conducted.
Personally, I prefer living rivers and lakes teeming with fish over germ-o-phobia and the worry of smelly socks. Smelly socks hasn't been so much of a problem for me that I would like to kill my surrounding waterways and sacrifice the health and vitality of my surrounding environment - in service of preventing some potential offending odor. That's just my opinion, however...
Fitsok - Please adjust your material sourcing to drop nano/micro-silver products. Massdrop, please make a better effort to avoid sourcing and selling products which are disproportionately harmful to our environment.
As @ElvisIncognito points out below, the XXL of these is not designed for a human foot, but a long and thin alien appendage of some sort:

My foot fits perfectly in the Darn Tough XL... so I go for the Merino XL and they just barely fit once stretched... then I tried the Merino XXL and they fit great... so logically next I go for the Mountain Crew XXL thinking they would fit the same... nooooo.... this thing is enormous! I could use it as a bag to store the rest of my socks.
Gonna try the XLs and see what that gets me.
