How do these compare to Fostex T50RP MK3 headphones (also a planar design)?

riffrafffThe frequency graph that I've seen tells me it's got Pique here high-end with the same or weaker base

riffrafffI have a Hifiman 400i which have specs very very close to this (there is actually a good chance they are quite the same thing). I have a T50RP MK2 that I spent a lot of time modifying to get the absolute best to my ears out of them. Never heard the MK3 but I believe it's the same driver and it took some cues from the modding community. Still, after all my work on the Fostex they still are not in the same league as the 400is. In fact My third headphone are also by Fostex The TH-X00 PH which sells on Massdrop for 450$ (not planars). For me in quality I like my 400 serie Hifiman and my TH-x00 just as much, they are different but are closer together in quality, as the T50 a clear step down. Still good, but there is no contest

Pierre111There's a very small chance they're modded 400i drivers, there are a few key divergences that lead most people that have tried/measured them to believe they're just new (or old and unreleased) drivers altogether.
PS: Most people seem to agree that these sound better than the 400i so I'm not disagreeing with your post, just figured it was a remark worth making.

riffrafffI own the t50rp mk3 with the 1540 pads and the 400i. I can say that the bass is more on the 50's than the 400i but not much. The 400i is I would say neutral but a little on the bright side. Imaging on the t50 is really good, and I would say as good as the 400i but has no soundstage. Should also note that I'm using brainwavz pleather angled pads than the stock. Stock hurts my ears because I wear glasses.

Not to doubt your judgment but I'm surprise you are saying there is more Bass with the T50, that's not my experience with the Mk2, Those measurements are the MK3 it's quite a roll off under 100 Hz. The 400i has energy in the bass all the way to 10 Hz. May be that little boost at 100 Hz could make you hear some Bass notes a little clearer but it's definitely lacking in the sub bass and the lower Bass. Maybe the pads change that a bit as well but really I don't see how a T serie driver could be heard as more bass. Maybe it's the general tonality that makes you hear it that way. But I'm sure if you take a moment to focus on the Bass of your two headphones you will notice things a little differently. Hifiman should have more. Then again maybe the style of music you listen to don't have a lot under 100 Hz, that would explain

Pierre111I think I meant an in emphasized way. Yes the 400i goes lower but the t50s to me sounds like the bass is more emphasized. It's not much but it is. wasn't trying to say that the t50's had more in the frequency range.
