I apologize if this question has already been answered, but I just joined the drop for the HE4XX and would like a balanced cable for it. Would these work? http://store.hifiman.com/index.php/crystalline-balanced-cable-4-pin-xlr-plug.html ... I see that there was a drop on balanced cables already but I missed it. I'm open to other suggestions as well.

nicoCLI'm sure the official HifiMan balanced cable would work, but is pricey at $200.
I purchased an inexpensive 1/8"-terminated aftermarket HifiMan cable on ebay (https://www.ebay.com/itm/401363670296). I cut off the plug and soldered on a $5 Neutrik 4-pin male XLR plug. The wires were hella fine, but there were two distinct ones leading from the source end to each 2.5 mm plug at the headphone side, and It Worked for less than $25!
I applied hot melt glue to the connector after soldering and before final assembly in the guise of strain relief. Tee Bee See if this cable stands up to the test of time. The reterminated cable looks good (not obviously DIY); can't say whether the sound is as sublime as a crystalline cable, though!
Pinout for the XLR plug is here: https://robrobinette.com/BalancedCable.htm#Convert_HE-500. I used a multi-meter to identify the left and right tip and sleeve wire conductors by colour. YMMV depending on the amplifier XLR jack wiring (is it really standard?).
Bonus: Also works with Monolith M1060 'phones.

nicoCLWhatever you do, don't spend 200 dollars on a balanced cable, all of the wires, connecters, and tools (including the soldering iron) come out to be way less than 200 dollars.
