Sennheiser PC37X randomly goes bad after disconnecting the cable ?
Greetings, Yesterday I was using my headset like normal with my macbook, just listening to music and on a call with people like usual, and the headset was perfectly fine. The stock wire that came with the headset is extremely long and yesterday it annoyed me very much that it kept getting tangled with itself, so I decided to see if the cable is replaceable. I pulled out the cable from the headset and saw the adapter, and looked online for a replacement. Upon plugging it back in, the audio sounded extremely muffled and washed out. Im not sure what I did wrong to make it mess up like that as I've always taken good care of it, ive had it for about 2 years and its always just been chilling on my desk, but anywho I thought the cable just went bad and ordered a replacement. The replacement came, and the issue is still persistant, so I am not sure what the issue is I've tried multiple different headsets and the issue is not with the port, and I also tried it with my windows laptop and...

I got to the office and am extremely disappointed. The HE4xx actually sounded better plugged directly into my home computer and are dull and congested when paired with the Vali. My HD600's sound much, much, much better on the Vali.
As for comfort, I find the HD600's (and HD6xx that I also have) to be far more comfortable than the HE4xx. I have a fairly large head (filled with air) and find that the HE4xx's tend to drop down and put all of the weight on the headband - becomes annoying with long listening sessions. The Senns are very light on the headband. Yes, clamping force is high out of the box, but easily cured with a little work on the springsteel band... in short, I can wear the Senn all day without discomfort.
So now I'm at a loss... The plan had been to take the HD600's home to my recently completed Bottlehead Crack OTL amp and use the HE4xx at the office on the Vali. I guess I need a new plan :-(
On the Schiit stack, the HE4xx have recessed mids/highs, narrow soundstage and the bass is lacking. I guess I need to find another amp pairing for the office. I wonder if the HE4xx doesn't like all tube amps, or just has a specific dislike for my Vali... I don't have a solid state amp to try at this point...
I guess the plan would be to read the comments and see what most people are using that seem to make these sound good?
So far, the HE4XX has some impressive qualities, it's definitely speedier in the treble than the 600 even, but it does seem to be lacking in bass and mid-bass compared to the 650 in particular, and it feels a bit closed in with some vocals.
It's also borderline uncomfortable. Very bottom heavy, and the headband feels like it needs more adjustment range to make it *smaller* - this coming from someone who has his HD600 adjusters out halfway.
Comfort-wise, it's nowhere near the 6xx, but it's not as bad as I had originally stated. The headband is reasonably well padded, but I still feel like it needs to be smaller and clampier. Some deeper ear pads would probably help here too.
Comfort-wise, I still find the HE4xx lacking... right now I just don't see them as all-day listeners.
There is a difference in sound quality depending my computer (desktop vs laptop). The laptop was not as wide a soundstage and sounded "closer"... more in your face. The desktop was definitely more spacious. Both sounded better than what I remember from laptop->dragonfly when at the office. No idea why there is a difference in laptop->dragonfly->HE4xx office vs home... maybe power related... no idea.
The above not withstanding, this exercise has driven home that the Mimby->Vali 1stgen->HE4xx is not a good pairing for me, so I guess I'm looking for a new amp for the office...
